acetonitrile degradation under haloalkaline conditions by natronocella acetinitrilica gen. nov., sp. nov.nitriles are important environmental compounds, both as natural products and industrial pollutants. until now, there have been no data on the possibility of microbial nitrile degradation at high ph/salt conditions. acetonitrile (ch(3)c(triple bond)n) is the simplest organic nitrile. here, evidence is provided of microbial utilization of acetonitrile as a carbon, energy and nitrogen source at extremely high ph and moderate salinity. positive enrichment cultures with acetonitrile at ph 10 and salt ...200717379725
plasticicumulans acidivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., a polyhydroxyalkanoate-accumulating gammaproteobacterium from a sequencing-batch bioreactor.here we describe a novel bacterium, strain tud-yj37(t), which can accumulate more than 85 wt% of polyhydroxybutyrate (phb). the bacterium was isolated from a mixed-culture bioreactor by using a 'feast-famine' regime and its properties were characterized. phylogenetic analysis based on full 16s rdna gene sequences reveals that the isolate is a member of the gammaproteobacteria, forming an independent deep phylogenetic lineage. it is most closely related to members of the genera methylocaldum, met ...201020971833
