providencia vermicola sp. nov., isolated from infective juveniles of the entomopathogenic nematode steinernema thermophilum.in the course of isolating bacteria from infective juveniles of the entomopathogenic nematode steinernema thermophilum ganguly & singh, 2000, three isolates were obtained (op1t, op29 and vs3). on the basis of 16s rrna gene sequence analysis and riboprint patterns, these three strains were identical to each other but distinct from the type strains of the five recognized species of the genus providencia. based on biochemical and genomic analysis and supported by the low (<35 %) dna-dna relatedness ...200616514040
identification of two entomopathogenic bacteria from a nematode pathogenic to the oriental beetle, blitopertha orientalis.a pathogenic nematode, butlerius sp., was isolated from oriental beetle, blitopertha orientalis. the infective juveniles exhibited dose- as well as time-dependent entomopathogenicity on the larvae of b. orientalis. two bacterial species, providencia vermicola (kacc 91278) and flavobacterium sp. (kacc 91279), were isolated from the infective juveniles and identified. p. vermicola outnumbered flavobacterium sp. in the nematode host, in which the colony density of p. vermicola was found to be 21 ti ...200718050915
production of biogenic amines by lactic acid bacteria and enterobacteria isolated from fresh pork sausages packaged in different atmospheres and kept under refrigeration.the occurrence of in vitro amino acid activity in bacterial strains associated with fresh pork sausages packaged in different atmospheres and kept in refrigeration was studied. the presence of biogenic amines in decarboxylase broth was confirmed by ion-exchange chromatography and by the presence of the corresponding decarboxylase genes by pcr. from the 93 lactic acid bacteria and 100 enterobacteria strains analysed, the decarboxylase medium underestimates the number of biogenic amine-producer st ...201121316866
Effects of associated bacteria on the pathogenicity and reproduction of the insect-parasitic nematode Rhabditis blumi (Nematoda: Rhabditida).Three bacteria, Alcaligenes faecalis , Flavobacterium sp., and Providencia vermicola , were isolated from dauer juveniles of Rhabditis blumi . The pathogenic effects of the bacteria against 4th instar larvae of Galleria mellonella were investigated. Providencia vermicola and Flavobacterium sp. showed 100% mortality at 48 h after haemocoelic injection, whereas A. faecalis showed less than 30% mortality. Dauer juveniles showed 100% mortality against G. mellonella larvae, whereas axenic juveniles, ...201121867444
antigonon leptopus: a potent biological source for extermination of fish bacterial pathogens providencia and aeromonas.this study pertains to the phytochemical components and the biological properties of the weed, antigonon leptopus hook. & arn. (aut/pus/064). phytochemical screening of methanolic leaf extract of a. leptopus revealed the presence of saponin, phenolic compounds, tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, fixed oils and amino acids. accordingly, 12 phytochemical components were analysed and characterised by gc-ms. antibacterial activity was evaluated against fish and clinical pathogens. fish pathogens, provi ...201525226215
role of integrons, plasmids and sxt elements in multidrug resistance of vibrio cholerae and providencia vermicola obtained from a clinical isolate of diarrhea.the isolates of vibrio cholerae and providencia vermicola obtained from a diarrheal patient were investigated for genetic elements governing their drug resistance phenotypes. out of 14 antibiotics tested, v. cholerae vc idh02365 isolate showed resistance to nine antibiotics, while p. vermicola pv nba2365 was found to be resistant to all the antibiotics except polymyxin b. though sxt integrase was depicted in both the bacteria, class 1 integron was found to be associated only with pv nba2365. int ...201525741322
mobile insertion cassette elements found in small non-transmissible plasmids in proteeae may explain qnrd mobilization.qnrd is a plasmid mediated quinolone resistance gene from unknown origin, recently described in enterobacteriaceae. it encodes a pentapeptide repeat protein 36-60% different from the other qnr (a, b, c, s and vc). since most qnrd-positive strains were described as strains belonging to proteus or providencia genera, we hypothesized that qnrd originated in proteeae before disseminating to other enterobacterial species. we screened 317 strains of proteeae for qnrd and its genetic support by pcr. fo ...201424504382
metallothionein assisted periplasmic lead sequestration as lead sulfite by providencia vermicola strain sj2a.lead resistant providencia vermicola strain sj2a was isolated from the waste of a battery manufacturing industry which could tolerate upto 3.0mm lead nitrate in the minimal medium. interestingly, this isolate showed presence of a plasmid borne metallothionein gene, bmta that matched significantly (96%) with that of pseudomonas aeruginosa. scanning electron micrographs of bacterial cells exposed to lead revealed a unique alteration in the cell morphology from rods to long inter-connected filament ...201727876392
copper-resistant bacteria reduces oxidative stress and uptake of copper in lentil plants: potential for bacterial bioremediation.for effective microbe-assisted bioremediation, metal-resistant plant growth-promoting bacteria (pgpb) must facilitate plant growth by restricting excess metal uptake in plants, leading to prevent its bio-amplification in the ecosystem. the aims of our study were to isolate and characterize copper (cu)-resistant pgpb from waste water receiving contaminated soil. in addition, we investigated the phytotoxic effect of copper on the lentil plants inoculated with copper-resistant bacteria providencia ...201626387695
improved biodegradation of textile dye effluent by coculture.the present study demonstrates the de-colorization and degradation of textile effluent by coculture consisting of three bacterial species isolated from textile effluent contaminated environment with an aim to reduce the treatment time. the isolates were identified as ochrobactrum sp., pseudomonas aeruginosa and providencia vermicola by 16s rrna analysis. their secondary structure was predicted and gc content of the sequence was found to be 54.39, 52.10, and 52.53%. the co-culture showed a promin ...201525594688
