rice fields along the east asian-australasian flyway are important habitats for an inland wader's migration.to maintain and recover populations of migratory waders, we must identify the important stopover sites and habitat use along migration routes. however, we have little such information for waders that depend on inland freshwater areas compared with those that depend on coastal areas. recent technological developments in tracking devices now allow us to define habitat use at a fine scale. in this study, we used gps loggers to track both spring and autumn migration along the east asian-australasian ...202032139723
Community composition of aquatic birds in lakes of Bangalore, India.Observations were made on the occurrence, abundance, richness, and diversity of waterbirds in 15 major lakes in Bangalore city during 2008 - 2009. During the study period 35 species of aquatic birds were recorded. The number of aquatic bird species recorded at various lakes ranged from 23 to 35. The percent abundance of waterbirds recorded in the study lakes ranged from 2.46 to 21.49 and itwas significantly different (p < 0.05). The diversity and species evenness of waterbirds in the lakes range ...201121888236
time course and metabolic costs of a humoral immune response in the little ringed plover charadrius dubius.despite host defense against parasites and pathogens being considered a costly life-history trait, relatively few studies have assessed the energetic cost of immune responsiveness. knowledge of such energetic costs may help to understand the mechanisms by which trade-offs with other demanding activities occur. the time course and associated metabolic costs of mounting a primary and secondary humoral immune response was examined in little ringed plovers charadrius dubius challenged with sheep red ...201323629885
perfluoroalkyl acids in the egg yolk of birds from lake shihwa, korea.concentrations of perfluoroalkyl acids (pfas) were measured in egg yolks of three species of birds, the little egret (egretta garzetta), little ringed plover (charadrius dubius), and parrot bill (paradoxornis webbiana), collected in and around lake shihwa, korea, which receives wastewaters from an adjacent industrial complex. mean concentrations of perfluorooctanesulfonate (pfos) ranged from 185 to 314 ng/g ww and were similar to those reported for bird eggs from other urban areas. long-chain pe ...200818754515
accumulation features of polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine pesticides in resident and migratory birds from south indiapersistent organochlorines such as ddt and its metabolites (ddts), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (hchs), chlordane compounds (chls), hexachlorobenzene (hcb), and polychlorinated biphenyls (pcbs) were determined in whole-body homogenates of resident and migratory birds collected from south india. organochlorine contamination pattern in birds varied depending on their migratory behaviour. resident birds contained relatively greater concentrations of hchs (14-8,800 ng/g wet wt) than ddts and pcbs c ...19989543510
