larvicidal potential of five philippine plants against aedes aegypti (linnaeus) and culex quinquefasciatus (say).five species of philippine plants, reported in the literature to have insecticidal properties, were selected for investigation, namely: anona squamosa ("atis" or sugar apple), eucalyptus globulus ("bagras" or olive gum eucalyptus), lansium domesticum ("lansones"), azadirachta indica ("neem") and codiaeum variegatum ("san francisco" or croton). these were screened and assayed for their larvicidal potential against aedes aedes aegypti (linnaeus) and culex quinquefasciatus (say) by exposing 3rd-4th ...19947667727
traditionally-used antimalarials from the meliaceae.a quantitative ethnobotanical approach to antimalarial drug discovery led to the identification of lansium domesticum corr. ser. (meliaceae) as an important antimalarial used by kenyah dyak healers in indonesian borneo. triterpenoid lansiolides with antimalarial activity were isolated from the bark and shown to have activity in both in vitro bioassays with plasmodium falciparum, and in mice infected with p. berghei. a survey of african and tropical american meliaceae led to further development o ...200312570769
lansium domesticum: skin and leaf extracts of this fruit tree interrupt the lifecycle of plasmodium falciparum, and are active towards a chloroquine-resistant strain of the parasite (t9) in vitro.malaria remains a global problem in the light of chloroquine-resistant strains of plasmodium falciparum. new compounds are needed for the development of novel antimalarial drugs. seed, leaf, and fruit skin extracts of lansium domesticum, a common fruit tree in south-east asia, are used by indigenous tribes in sabah, malaysia for treating malaria. the skin and aqueous leaf extracts of the tree were found to reduce parasite populations of the drug sensitive strain (3d7) and the chloroquine-resista ...200312576213
effects of central kalimantan plant extracts on intraerythrocytic babesia gibsoni in culture.the inhibitory effects of 45 plant extracts selected from central kalimantan, indonesia on babesia gibsoni in vitro and their acute toxicity to mice were evaluated. of these plant extracts studied, arcangelisia flava, curcuma zedoaria, garcinia benthamiana, lansium domesticum and peronema canescens were found to have appreciable antibabesial activity with ic50 values from 5.3 to 49.3 microg/ml without acute toxicity in mice at the intraperitoneal dose of 0.7 g/kg of body weight.200415297762
antimalarial tetranortriterpenoids from the seeds of lansium domesticum corr.five tetranortriterpenoids, domesticulide a-e (1-5), were isolated from seeds of lansium domesticum corr. together with 11 known triterpenoids (6-16). their structures were elucidated by analysis of their spectroscopic data. compounds 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 15 showed antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum with ic(50)'s of 2.4-9.7 microg/ml.200616930641
leaf life span plasticity in tropical seedlings grown under contrasting light regimes.the phenotypic plasticity of leaf life span in response to low resource conditions has a potentially large impact on the plant carbon budget, notably in evergreen species not subject to seasonal leaf shedding, but has rarely been well documented. this study evaluates the plasticity of leaf longevity, in terms of its quantitative importance to the plant carbon balance under limiting light.200616299004
unaspis lansivora sp. n. (hemiptera: diaspididae), a new pest of lansium domesticum (meliaceae), and a key to unaspis species.since 2004, an undescribed species of unaspis (hemiptera: diaspididae) has become a damaging pest on lansium domesticum corrêa in the philippines. its attack on the leaves causes premature senescence and defoliation, resulting in the production of few, underdeveloped, sour fruit and sometimes killing the trees. the scale was misidentified initially as lepidosaphes ulmi (linnaeus) and then as unaspis citri (comstock), but further study indicated that it was an undescribed species of potential pla ...201525661221
