glaciecola mesophila sp. nov., a novel marine agar-digesting bacterium.alteromonas-like strains kmm 241(t) and kmm 642, isolated from marine invertebrate specimens, were investigated to clarify their taxonomic position. the novel isolates were aerobic, gram-negative, motile, slightly halophilic and heterotrophic and hydrolysed polysaccharides. they did not hydrolyse urea, gelatin or casein and produced acid weakly from carbohydrates. the dna g + c content ranged between 44.6 and 44.8 mol%. dna-dna similarity between the two strains was 71%. comparison of the 16s rr ...200312807181
glaciecola polaris sp. nov., a novel budding and prosthecate bacterium from the arctic ocean, and emended description of the genus glaciecola.four strains of cold-adapted, strictly aerobic and facultative oligotrophic bacteria were isolated from polar seas and investigated using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. two strains (lmg 21857t and lmg 21854) derive from arctic sea water whereas the other two strains (lmg 21855 and lmg 21858) were isolated from antarctic sea water. phylogenetic analysis based on 16s rrna gene sequences indicated that these strains belong to the gamma-subclass of the proteobacteria and are related to the genus g ...200415388742
glaciecola psychrophila sp. nov., a novel psychrophilic bacterium isolated from the arctic.a novel bacterial strain, designated 170(t), was collected from high latitude arctic locations (77 degrees 30' n to approximately 81 degrees 12' n), including the canadian basin and greenland sea. phylogenetic analysis based on 16s rrna gene sequence comparisons showed that strain 170(t) was related to members of the genus glaciecola and had the highest 16s rrna gene sequence similarity to glaciecola mesophila. cells were gram-negative, psychrophilic, motile rods. the temperature range for growt ...200617158989
glaciecola agarilytica sp. nov., an agar-digesting marine bacterium from the east sea, korea.a taxonomic study was carried out on an isolate, strain no2(t), from marine sediment collected from the east sea, korea. comparative 16s rrna gene sequence studies showed that this strain belonged to the gammaproteobacteria and was most closely related to glaciecola mesophila kmm 241(t) and glaciecola polaris lmg 21857(t) (98.6 and 98.0 % 16s rrna gene sequence similarity, respectively). the isolate was gram-negative, aerobic and slightly halophilic and grew in 2-8 % nacl and at 7-30 degrees c. ...200717473239
gene cloning, expression and characterization of a new cold-active and salt-tolerant endo-beta-1,4-xylanase from marine glaciecola mesophila kmm 241.although a lot of xylanases are studied, only a few xylanases from marine microorganisms have been reported. a new xylanase gene, xyna, was cloned from marine bacterium glaciecola mesophila kmm 241. gene xyna contains 1,272 bp and encodes a 423-amino acid xylanase precursor. the recombinant xylanase, xyna, expressed in escherichia coli bl21 is a monomer with a molecular mass of 43 kda. among the characterized xylanases, xyna shares the highest identity (46%) to the xylanase from flavobacterium s ...200919506861
improvement of the quality of wheat bread by addition of glycoside hydrolase family 10 xylanases.although many xylanases are widely used in the baking industry, only one glycoside hydrolase family 10 (gh 10) xylanase has previously been reported to be effective in baking. in this study, we compared the effectiveness of two gh 10 xylanases, psychrophilic xyna from glaciecola mesophila and mesophilic ex1 from trichoderma pseudokoningii, in bread making. the optimal dosages needed to improve wheat flour dough and bread quality were 270-u/kg flour for ex1 and 0.9-u/kg flour for xyna. at their o ...201121249355
a complete genome assembly of glaciecola mesophila sp. nov. sequenced by using bigis-4 sequencer system.using a pyrosequencing-based custom-made sequencer bigis-4, we sequenced a gram-negative bacterium glaciecola mesophila sp. nov. (gmn) isolated from marine invertebrate specimens. we generated 152043 sequencing reads with a mean high-quality length of 406 bp, and assembled them using the bigis-4 post-processing module. no systematic low-quality data was detected beyond expected homopolymer-derived errors. the assembled gmn genome is 5144318 bp in length and harbors 4303 annotated genes. a large ...201121809037
