phosphatase activity in avian mycoplasmas.fifty-four strains of avian mycoplasma representing 11 species or serotypes were examined for their phosphatase activity using two different methods. both methods gave similar results. all of four strains of mycoplasma anatis and six of m meleagridis and the type strain of serotype l were phosphatase positive. the other species gave variable reactions between strains and on different occasions of testing.1979232295
serological survey of infections in waterfowl in the guadalquivir marshes (spain).a serological survey was performed in the guadalquivir marshes (southern spain) in order to determine the presence and diffusion of six infective agents in wild waterfowl. the analysis covered 712 waterfowl from 13 species belonging to five taxa (podicipediformes, ciconiiformes, anseriformes, gruiformes, and charadriiformes). a range of immunological techniques led to detection of antibodies against the six infective agents studied: chlamydia psittaci (13.3%), mycoplasma anatis (3.5%), pasteurel ...19947980291
effects of mycoplasma anatis and cold stress on hatching success and growth of mallard ducklings.we inoculated game-farm mallard (anas platyrhynchos) eggs and 1-day-old birds with mycoplasma anatis to determine its effect on hatching success and growth rates of ducklings. inoculations of eggs reduced hatching success, hatchling size, and duckling growth rates, compared to controls. intratracheal inoculations of 1-day-old birds did not affect growth rates. hatchlings and 1-day-old ducklings grew much slower for the first 7 to 10 days when raised at 17 to 19 c, compared to controls raised at ...19958583634
the occurrence of mycoplasmas in selected wild north american waterfowl.we determined the prevalence of mycoplasma infection in breeding mallard (anas platyrhynchos) and canvasback (aythya valisineria) hens and their broods from the central united states (1988 to 1990); and wintering american black duck (anas rubripes) and mallard hens from the eastern united states (1990 to 1993). mycoplasmas were isolated by culturing tracheal swabs from 656 live birds and tissue samples from 112 dead waterfowl. nine (18%) of 51 mycoplasma isolates were identified as mycoplasma an ...19958592358
exposure of wild waterfowl to mycoplasma anatis.we developed an elisa procedure to assess the presence of m. anatis-specific serum antibody in ducks. sera from exposed and unexposed pekin ducks (anas platyrhynchos) were used to standardize the elisa and to establish reference ranges to classify elisa results as exposed or not exposed. we conducted serological surveys of female waterfowl in the central and eastern united states between 1988 and 1992 to assess the frequency of exposure in wild waterfowl. adult breeding mallards (anas platyrhync ...19968722273
genome sequence of duck pathogen mycoplasma anatis strain 1340.mycoplasma anatis, a member of the class mollicutes, is the causative agent of a contagious infectious disease of domestic ducklings, wild birds, and eggs. increasing reports show that coinfection of m. anatis with escherichia coli results in substantial economic impacts on the duck farms in china. here, we announce the first genome sequence of m. anatis.201121952548
an outbreak of mycoplasma anatis infection associated with nervous symptoms in large-scale duck flocks. 19883176766
experimental infection of ducklings with mycoplasma gallisepticum and mycoplasma anatis.two groups of day-old ducklings were infected with mycoplasma gallisepticum and m anatis respectively by air sac inoculation. clinical disease was not produced but air sacculitis was produced by both infections. m gallisepticum could be recovered readily from respiratory tissue 10 and 30 days after infections but rsa tests were negative. m anatis was not reisolated from these tissues or from the cloaca but a positive rsa test was observed on the serum of a few ducklings.1978705054
