Spinosad and neem seed kernel extract as bio-controlling agents for malarial vector, Anopheles stephensi and non-biting midge, Chironomus circumdatus.Midge egg masses are reported to support non-pathogenic strains of the cholera pathogen, Vibrio cholera (V. cholera). Mosquito born diseases have been reported to cause millions of death worldwide. The present research reveals the toxicity effect of spinosad and neem seed kernel extract (NSKE) against different larval stages of Anopheles stephensi (An. stephensi) and Chironomus circumdatus (Ch. circumdatus).201121914538
chironomid midges as allergens: evidence from two species from west bengal, kolkata, india.arthropods of different taxonomic identity including chironomid midges are known to induce allergic response in humans. the present study was done to access two common chironomid species chironomus circumdatus and polypedilum nubifer for their sensitizing potential as an allergen in atopic patients and controls.201425109727
larvicidal activities of three plants against filarial vector culex quinquefasciatus say (diptera: culicidae).the present study was carried out to establish the larvicidal properties of crude extracts of three plants, viz. carica papaya, murraya paniculata and cleistanthus collinus against culex quinquefasciatus as target species. the relative efficacy of the plant extracts in vector control was as follows: c. papaya seed extract > m. paniculata fruit extract > m. paniculata leaf extract > c. collinus leaf extract. result of log-probit analysis (at 95% confidence level) revealed that lc(50) and lc(95) v ...200919644705
mosquito larvicidal and biting deterrency activity of bud of polianthes tuberosa plants extract against anopheles stephensi and culex quinquefasciatus.mosquito control by phytochemicals is an alternative method to synthetic insecticides, as it is biodegradable and non resistant to vector mosquito. polianthes tuberosa is a perennial plant distributed in many parts of india. the present study was undertaken to scientifically evaluate the larvicide and biting deterrency activity of bud of polianthes tuberosa against culex quinquefasciatus and anopheles stephensi. crude and solvent extract [ethyl acetate, chloroform: methanol (1:1, v/v), acetone] ...201225151752
mosquito larvicidal and antimicrobial activity of synthesized nano-crystalline silver particles using leaves and green berry extract of solanum nigrum l. (solanaceae: solanales).silver nanoparticles (agnps) that are synthesized by using aqueous extracts of solanum nigrum l., is a simple, non-toxic and ecofriendly green material. the present study is based on assessments of the larvicidal and antimicrobial activities of the synthesized agnps from fresh leaves, dry leaves and green berries of s. nigrum against larvae of culex quinquefasciatus and anopheles stephensi and four human pathogenic and five fish pathogenic bacteria respectively. the synthesized nanoparticles are ...201324055718
single-step biosynthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles using zornia diphylla leaves: a potent eco-friendly tool against malaria and arbovirus vectors.mosquitoes (diptera: culicidae) are vectors of important pathogens and parasites, including malaria, dengue, chikungunya, japanese encephalitis, lymphatic filariasis and zika virus. the application of synthetic insecticides causes development of resistance, biological magnification of toxic substances through the food chain, and adverse effects on the environment and human health. in this scenario, eco-friendly control tools of mosquito vectors are a priority. here single-step fabrication of sil ...201627318605
laboratory evaluation of molluscicidal & mosquito larvicidal activities of leaves of solanum nigrum l.indiscriminate use of synthetic pesticides has created serious problem for the aquatic flora and fauna, and also resulted in appearance of pesticide resistance in vector population. this study was designed to evaluate the biocontrol efficacy of aqueous and solvent extracts of mature leaves of solanum nigrum l., against fresh water snail lymnaea acuminata f. rufescens (gray) (an intermediate host of parasites causing fasciolopsiasis) and larvae of culex vishnui group (reuben) (vector of japanese ...025297363
population cytogenetics of chironomus circumdatus kieffer, 1921 (diptera, chironomidae) from thailand.the objectives of this study were to explore cytogenetic variation and the role of chromosomal change on local adaptation and genetic differentiation of chironomus circumdatus kieffer from thailand. a total of 1,505 larvae from 24 populations were examined cytologically. twelve chromosomal inversions were found and most of these (9 of 12) were rare inversions. all populations were in hardy-weinberg equilibrium. significant association (p < 0.001) between the a2 and b5 inversions was detected in ...200918320331
