genus-specific primers targeting the 16s rrna gene for pcr detection of members of the genus verrucosispora.little is known about the genus verrucosispora though it does contain organisms which produce novel antibiotics. a set of genus-specific oligonucleotide primers was generated to gain an insight into the presence, distribution and taxonomic diversity of members of this genus in diverse samples taken from marine habitats. in silico and pure culture studies showed that the primers matched perfectly with target sequences of the 16s rrna genes of representatives of the genus verrucosispora. the prime ...201121374042
a guide to successful bioprospecting: informed by actinobacterial systematics.new structurally diverse natural products are discovered when novel screening procedures are introduced or when high quality biological materials from new sources are examined in existing screens, hence it is important to foster these two aspects of novelty in drug discovery programmes. amongst prokaryotes, actinomycetes, notably streptomycetes, remain a rich source of new natural products though it has become increasingly difficult to find such metabolites from common actinomycetes as screening ...201020582471
terpenoids produced by actinomycetes: isolation, structural elucidation and biosynthesis of new diterpenes, gifhornenolones a and b from verrucosispora gifhornensis ym28-088.new terpenoids named gifhornenolones a (1) and b (2) were isolated from the culture broth of verrucosispora gifhornensis ym28-088, and their structures were established as hydroxylated isopimaradiene derivatives on the basis of extensive nmr and ms spectral analyses. in addition, a known sesquiterpene compound cyperusol c (3) was isolated. the absolute configuration of 1 was determined by nuclear overhauser effect spectroscopy (noesy) and cd spectra as 4r, 5s, 9r, 10s, 13r, and that of 2 was det ...201020379218
verrucosispora sediminis sp. nov., a cyclodipeptide-producing actinomycete from deep-sea sediment.an actinomycete, designated ms426t, the culture broth of which showed potent antimicrobial activity, was isolated from a deep-sea sediment sample of the south china sea. an almost-complete sequence of the 16s rrna gene of strain ms426t was determined and aligned with those of representatives of the family micromonosporaceae available in public databases. phylogenetic trees were inferred by using three algorithms. strain ms426t formed a branch adjacent to verrucosispora lutea yim 013t in a distin ...201019767367
