the biosynthesis of (+)- -pinene in pinus species.1. the degradation of (+)-alpha-pinene biosynthesized from 3rs-[2-(14)c]mevalonate by pinus radiata or pinus nigra revealed an asymmetrical labelling pattern whereby the moiety derived from isopentenyl pyrophosphate contained at least 90% of the incorporated tracer. this pattern differed both in asymmetry and position of labelling from previous results obtained with p. nigra, but is consistent with the generally accepted hypothetical mechanism for the biosynthesis of the pinane skeleton. 2. (+)- ...19724656792
chloroplast dna diversity among trees, populations and species in the california closed-cone pines (pinus radiata, pinus muricata and pinus attenuata).the amount, distribution and mutational nature of chloroplast dna polymorphisms were studied via analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphisms in three closely related species of conifers, the california closed-cone pines-knobcone pine: pinus attenuata lemm.; bishop pine: pinus muricata d. don; and monterey pine: pinus radiata d. don. genomic dna from 384 trees representing 19 populations were digested with 9-20 restriction enzymes and probed with cloned cpdna fragments from douglas-fir ...19937905846
abundant mitochondrial genome diversity, population differentiation and convergent evolution in pines.we examined mitochondrial dna polymorphisms via the analysis of restriction fragment length polymorphisms in three closely related species of pines from western north america: knobcone (pinus attenuata lemm.), monterey (p. radiata d. don), and bishop (p. muricata d. don). a total of 343 trees derived from 13 populations were analyzed using 13 homologous mitochondrial gene probes amplified from three species by polymerase chain reaction. twenty-eight distinct mitochondrial dna haplotypes were det ...19989832536
endogenous gibberellins of pine pollen: ii. changes during germination of pinus attenuata, p. coulteri, and p. ponderosa pollen.the endogenous gibberellins (gas) of pollen of pinus attenuata, p. coulteri, and p. ponderosa were bioassayed at hour 0, 3, 15, 24, 48 and 72 of germination. dormant pollen showed relatively high ga activity throughout the elution spectrum (i.e. ranging from relatively nonpolar to highly polar). the maximum ga activity was obtained at hour 15 in more polar regions and especially in the zone corresponding to ga(3) (for p. attenuata estimated as 250 micrograms of ga(3)/kilogram pollen). it is prob ...197516659365
endogenous gibberellins of pine pollen: iii. conversion of 1,2-[h]ga(4) to gibberellins a(1) and a(34) in germinating pollen of pinus attenuata lemm.gibberellins a(1) and a(34) (possibly a(2)) were found as products of metabolism of 1,2-[(3)h]ga(4) during germination of pinus attenuata pollen. the conversion from ga(4) to ga(1) and ga(34) occurred as hydroxylations at atoms c-13 and c-2 of the ent-gibberellane skeleton, respectively. percentage interconversion of the ga(4) absorbed was in the range of 0.15 to 0.43% for ga(1) and 1.54 to 3.22% for ga(34). identifications were made on a gas-liquid chromatograph with radioactive monitoring by c ...197616659622
heterosis at allozyme loci under inbreeding and crossbreeding in pinus attenuata.the dependence of heterosis at isozyme loci on inbreeding and crossbreeding was studied in 10-yr-old trees of knobcone pine (pinus attenuata lemm.). heterozygosity was determined at 24 polymorphic isozyme loci and related to the rate of vegetative growth and cone production. the inbreds, created by selfpollination, had 46% of the heterozygosity of their mothers; the crossbreds, created by interpopulation crossing, had 155% of the heterozygosity of their mothers. within the crossbreds, heterozygo ...198617246325
