efficacy of some essential oils and their constituents on few ubiquitous molds.six essential oils of mentha arvensis, mentha piperita, anethum sowa, cymbopogon winterianus, nardostachys jatamansi, and commiphora mukul were selected and tested for their efficacy against aspergillus flavus, a. fumigatus, a. sulphureus, mucor fragilis, and rhizopus stolonifer. these oils were fungistatic or fungicidal to one or the other molds, depending upon the concentrations.1978749414
fungi associated with herbal drug plants during storage.samples of sundried herbal drug plant parts stored for sale were purchased from four herbal markets located in ibadan, nigeria. the plant parts were analysed for mycoflora associated with their storage. fungal colony counts ranged from 0.60 x 10(2) to 3.50 x 10(2) within the period of the survey. twenty eight fungal species were isolated with the species of aspergillus niger, a. flavus, fusarium moniliforme, trichoderma viride, penicillium expansum and mucor fragilis being the dominant ones. the ...19969208479
ethanol-induced dimorphism and lipid composition changes in mucor fragilis ccmi 142.to study the effect of ethanol on morphology, lipid production and fatty acid profile of mucor fragilis ccmi 142 cultures.200111442823
the structure and behavior of the nuclei in spores and growing hyphae of mucorales. i. mucor hiemalis and mucor fragilis. 195713460827
purification and properties of beta-n-acetylhexosaminidase from mucor fragilis grown in bovine blood.mucor fragilis grown on bovine blood powder as the sole carbon source abundantly produced beta-n-acetylhexosaminidase. the enzyme activity was several times higher than that of a culture obtained with glucose medium. the enzyme had two different molecular weight forms. the high-molecular-weight form had somewhat higher beta-n-acetylgalactosaminidase activity than the lower-molecular-weight enzyme which had beta-n-acetylgalactosaminidase activity equivalent to about 40% of its beta-n-acetylglucos ...198616347047
genotypic analysis of mucor from the platypus in australia.mucor amphibiorum is the only pathogen known to cause significant morbidity and mortality in the free-living platypus (ornithorhynchus anatinus) in tasmania. infection has also been reported in free-ranging cane toads (bufo marinus) and green tree frogs (litoria caerulea) from mainland australia but has not been confirmed in platypuses from the mainland. to date, there has been little genotyping specifically conducted on m. amphibiorum. a collection of 21 mucor isolates representing isolates fro ...201020090018
fungi isolated from olive ecosystems and screening of their potential biotechnological use.this study investigated the fungi diversity of fresh olive (olea europaea l.) fruits, olive paste (crushed olives) and olive pomace (solid waste) and screened and quantified enzymatic activities with biotechnological applications. fungi were randomly isolated from olive cultivars from castilla la mancha region (spain). identification included comparison of their polymerase chain reaction (pcr) amplicons of the its1-5.8s-its2 ribosomal dna region, followed by nucleotide sequence analysis. fourtee ...201121689797
culture-independent detection of microorganisms in traditional slovakian bryndza cheese.in order to investigate the microflora of slovakian bryndza cheese (a cheese containing unpasteurized or pasteurized ewes' milk component) by a culture-independent method, dna was extracted directly from 7 bryndza samples and analysed by an innovative method. using the universal prokaryotic and fungal primers, ribosomal dna internal transcribed spacer (its) regions with variable length were amplified. the standard universal reverse primer l1 aligning to bacterial 23s rdna was found unsuitable fo ...201121849217
assessment of microbial contamination within working environments of different types of composting plants.the objective of the study was to determine the degree of microbiological contamination, type of microflora, bioaerosol particle size distribution, and concentration of endotoxins in dust in different types of composting plants. in addition, this study provides a list of indicator microorganisms that pose a biological threat in composting facilities, based on their prevalence within the workplace, source of isolation, and health hazards. we undertook microbiological analysis of the air, work sur ...201525947216
identification of mucorales from clinical specimens: a 4-year experience in a single institution.mucormycosis, a fatal opportunistic infection in immunocompromised hosts, is caused by fungi belonging to the order mucorales. early diagnosis based on exact identification and multidisciplinary treatments is critical. however, identification of mucorales fungi is difficult and often delayed, resulting in poor prognosis. this study aimed to compare the results of phenotypic and molecular identification of 12 mucorales isolates collected from 4-yr-accumulated data. all isolates were identified on ...201626522761
characterization of two new records of mucoralean species isolated from gut of soldier fly larva in korea.while surveying the diversity of fungi of the order mucorales, two isolates, eml-puki12-1 and eml-puki06-1, were obtained from the gut of soldier fly larvae inhabiting the bulrush at a pond located in the chonnam national university arboretum, gwangju, korea. the isolates were confirmed as mucor irregularis and mucor fragilis species, respectively, based on the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of rdna internal transcribed spacer region. such mucoralean species belonging to ...201628154489
mucor fragilis as a novel source of the key pharmaceutical agents podophyllotoxin and kaempferol.podophyllotoxin, a pharmaceutically important bioactive compound of podophyllum sps. (berberidaceae), is in great demand worldwide as an anticancer and antivirus drug precursor. however, the source of podophyllotoxin is very limited due to the endangered status of the podophyllum plant.201424863281
