antifungal chalcones and new caffeic acid esters from zuccagnia punctata acting against soybean infecting fungi.the crude methanolic extract of zuccagnia punctata was active toward the fungal pathogens of soybean phomopsis longicolla and colletotrichum truncatum. assay guided fractionation led to the isolation of two chalcones, one flavanone and a new caffeoyl ester derivative as the compounds responsible for the antifungal activity. another new caffeoyl ester derivative was isolated from the antifungal chloroform extract but proved to be inactive against the soybean infecting fungi up to 50 microg/ml200415161186
cutaneous infection by phomopsis longicolla in a renal transplant recipient from guinea: first report of human infection by this fungus.we report the case of a 72-year-old female renal transplant recipient with a nodular lesion in the distal phalange of the third left finger produced by a dematiaceous fungus that was identified as phomopsis longicolla. she was treated with itraconazole and terbinafine and later with voriconazole, without response. the patient underwent a surgical resection with lesion-free edge and continued on voriconazole. one year later she was asymptomatic and had not developed new lesions.201121457423
resolving the diaporthe species occurring on soybean in croatia.diaporthe (anamorph = phomopsis) species are plant pathogens and endophytes on a wide range of hosts including economically important crops. at least four diaporthe taxa occur on soybean and they are responsible for serious diseases and significant yield losses. although several studies have extensively described the culture and morphological characters of these pathogens, their taxonomy has not been fully resolved. diaporthe and phomopsis isolates were obtained from soybean and other plant host ...201122403474
molecular identification and phylogenetic grouping of diaporthe phaseolorum and phomopsis longicolla isolates from soybean.abstract diaporthe phaseolorum and phomopsis longicolla isolates from soybean were examined using traditional mycological characteristics and molecular methods. cultural characteristics including types of fruiting bodies and conidia were assessed for isolates collected from soybean stems and seeds. cultures were identified as p. longicolla, d. phaseolorum var. caulivora, d. phaseolorum var. meridionalis, or d. phaseolorum var. sojae. molecular markers for these groups were developed and analyzed ...199818944833
molecular detection of diaporthe phaseolorum and phomopsis longicolla from soybean seeds.abstract species-specific detection of diaporthe phaseolorum and phomopsis longicolla from soybean seeds was accomplished using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (pcr-rflp) and taqman chemistry. to use these detection systems, fungal dna was released from soybean seed coats using an ultrasonic processor to break the cells. dna fragment lengths ranged from 200 to 1,200 base pairs (bp), with the majority of fragments <500 bp. based on dna sequences of the internal ...199918944708
morphologic, molecular, and pathogenic characterization of diaporthe phaseolorum variability in the core soybean-producing area of argentina.abstract isolates of the diaporthe/phomopsis (d/p) complex were collected in the main soybean producing area of argentina during the 1996-97, 1997-98, and 1998-99 growing seasons. twenty-three morphologic characters related to type of colonies, stroma, pycnidia and conidia, presence of perithecia, and asci length were studied by principal component analysis (pca). genomic dna were analyzed by the random amplified polymorphic dna (rapd) technique. from both studies, 18 isolates were identified as ...200318943127
inheritance of resistance to phomopsis seed decay in pi 360841 soybean.phomopsis longicolla hobbs is the primary cause of phomopsis seed decay (psd) in soybean. infection may result in moldy seed and poor germination. the objective of this study was to conduct inheritance studies to characterize resistance to psd in plant introduction (pi) 360481. crosses were made between pi 360841 and 2 psd-susceptible genotypes, agripro (ap) 350 and pi 91113, to determine the number of genes for resistance. additionally, crosses were made between pi 360841 and phomopsis resistan ...200818504256
dicerandrols, new antibiotic and cytotoxic dimers produced by the fungus phomopsis longicolla isolated from an endangered mint.bioassay-guided fractionation of the organic extract from a culture of phomopsis longicolla, an endophytic fungus of the endangered mint dicerandra frutescens, led to the isolation of dicerandrols a, b, and c. extensive nmr and hrfabms experiments were used to identify these new yellow antibiotic and cytotoxic compounds as 2,2'-dimeric tetrahydroxanthones.200111520215
identification, fermentation, and bioactivity against xanthomonas oryzae of antimicrobial metabolites isolated from phomopsis longicolla s1b4.bacterial blight, an important and potentially destructive bacterial disease in rice, is caused by xanthomonas oryzae. recently, this organism has developed resistance to available antibiotics, prompting scientists to find a suitable alternative. this study focused on secondary metabolites of phomopsis longicolla to target x. oryzae. five bioactive compounds were isolated by activity-guided fractionation from ethyl acetate extracts of mycelia and were identified by lc/ms and nmr spectroscopy as ...201020372017
