chili leaf curl betasatellite is associated with a distinct recombinant begomovirus, pepper leaf curl lahore virus, in capsicum in pakistan.capsium spp. are an important vegetable crop cultivated through pakistan. leaf curl disease is the major disease of capsicum spp. in pakistan caused by viruses. the disease has previously been shown to be associated with begomoviruses and betasatellites. we have cloned and sequenced a begomovirus and its associated betasatellite from capsicum originating from central pakistan. the begomovirus isolated was distinct from all previously characterised viruses and we propose the name pepper leaf curl ...201020079779
an unusual alphasatellite associated with monopartite begomoviruses attenuates symptoms and reduces betasatellite accumulation.the oman strain of tomato yellow leaf curl virus (tylcv-om) and its associated betasatellite, an isolate of tomato leaf curl betasatellite (tolcb), were previously reported from oman. here we report the isolation of a second, previously undescribed, begomovirus [tomato leaf curl oman virus (tolcomv)] and an alphasatellite from that same plant sample. this alphasatellite is closely related (90 % shared nucleotide identity) to an unusual dna-2-type ageratum yellow vein singapore alphasatellite (ay ...201021084498
Complete genome sequence of an isolate of Clerodendron yellow mosaic virus - a new begomovirus from India.Clerodendron inerme, a common hedge plant grown in India, is affected by a yellow mosaic disease caused by a begomovirus. In the present study, the complete genome (DNA A) of this virus was cloned and sequenced. The total size of DNA A is 2760 nucleotides. The genome of this virus contains six open reading frames and a non-coding intergenic region of 293 nucleotides. Nucleotide sequence comparison analysis revealed maximum sequence identity with Papaya leaf curl virus-Pakistan [Pakistan:Cotton:2 ...201122149502
complete nucleotide sequences of two begomoviruses infecting madagascar periwinkle (catharanthus roseus) from pakistan.though catharanthus roseus (madagascar periwinkle) is an ornamental plant, it is famous for its medicinal value. its alkaloids are known for anti-cancerous properties, and this plant is studied mainly for its alkaloids. here, this plant has been studied for its viral diseases. complete dna sequences of two begomoviruses infecting c. roseus originating from pakistan were determined. the sequence of one begomovirus (clone kn4) shows the highest level of nucleotide sequence identity (86.5 %) to an ...201323065111
an improved electrochemiluminescence polymerase chain reaction method for highly sensitive detection of plant viruses.recently, we have reported an electrochemiluminescence polymerase chain reaction (ecl-pcr) method for detection of genetically modified organisms. the ecl-pcr method was further improved in the current study by introducing a multi-purpose nucleic acid sequence that was specific to the tris(bipyridine) ruthenium (tbr) labeled probe, into the 5' terminal of the primers. the method was applied to detect plant viruses. conserved sequence of the plant viruses was amplified by pcr. the product was hyb ...200717386503
diversity and distribution of begomoviruses infecting tomato in india.leaf curl begomoviruses cause serious yield losses to indian tomato crops. total dnas were extracted from leaves of 69 tomato plants and 34 weeds or neighbouring crops collected from all the major tomato producing areas of india. eighty-one of the 103 samples were positive by pcrs using begomovirus genus-specific primers. coat protein (cp) genes from 29 samples were pcr amplified, cloned and sequenced. phylogenetic analyses of the cp sequences revealed five different tomato leaf curl begomovirus ...200515703846
nucleotide sequence and intergeminiviral homologies of the dna-a of papaya leaf curl geminivirus from india.coat protein gene, rep protein gene and intergenic region of the genome of a whitefly transmitted geminivirus (wtg) causing severe leaf curl in papaya plants were pcr amplified, cloned and sequenced. comparison of the amino acid sequence of the putative coat protein product of papaya leaf curl virus (plcv) with some other mono and bipartite wtgs revealed a maximum of 89.8% homology with indian cassava mosaic virus. the genomic organization of plcv-india is similar to other wtgs with bipartite ge ...19989635134
a molecular insight into papaya leaf curl-a severe viral disease.papaya leaf curl disease (palcud) caused by papaya leaf curl virus (palcuv) not only affects yield but also plant growth and fruit size and quality of papaya and is one of the most damaging and economically important disease. management of palcuv is a challenging task due to diversity of viral strains, the alternate hosts, and the genomic complexities of the viruses. several management strategies currently used by plant virologists to broadly control or eliminate the viruses have been discussed. ...201728540512
biology and interactions of two distinct monopartite begomoviruses and betasatellites associated with radish leaf curl disease in india.emerging whitefly transmitted begomoviruses are major pathogens of vegetable and fibre crops throughout the world, particularly in tropical and sub-tropical regions. mutation, pseudorecombination and recombination are driving forces for the emergence and evolution of new crop-infecting begomoviruses. leaf curl disease of field grown radish plants was noticed in varanasi and pataudi region of northern india. we have identified and characterized two distinct monopartite begomoviruses and associate ...201222339942
phylogenetic lineage of tobacco leaf curl virus in korea and estimation of recombination events implicated in their sequence variation.new strains of tobacco leaf curl virus (tblcv) were isolated from tomato plants in four different local communities of korea, and hence were designated tblcv-kr. phylogenetic analysis of the sequences of the whole genome and of individual orfs of these viruses indicated that they are closely related to the tobacco leaf curl japan virus (tblcjv) cluster, which includes honeysuckle yellow vein virus (hyvv), honeysuckle yellow vein mosaic virus (hyvmv), and tblcjv isolates. four putative recombinat ...201121549772
complete nucleotide sequence of a begomovirus and associated betasatellite infecting croton (croton bonplandianus) in pakistan.the complete sequences of a begomovirus and an associated betasatellite isolated from croton bonplandianus originating from pakistan were determined. the sequence of the begomovirus showed the highest level of nucleotide sequence identity (88.9%) to an isolate of papaya leaf curl virus and thus represents a new species, for which we propose the name croton yellow vein virus (cyvv). the sequence of the betasatellite showed the highest levels of sequence identity (82 to 98.4%) to six sequences in ...201121487662
the hypersensitive response induced by the v2 protein of a monopartite begomovirus is countered by the c2 protein.a functional analysis of the v2 protein of two monopartite begomoviruses, papaya leaf curl virus (palcuv) and cotton leaf curl kokhran virus (clcukov), has been performed. expression of the v2 gene from a potato virus x (pvx) vector resulted in severe leaf curling followed by a hypersensitive response (hr) in nicotiana benthamiana and n. tabacum, demonstrating that the v2 protein is a pathogenicity determinant and a target of host defence responses. agroinfiltration of a pvx vector expressing th ...201020447273
