vapor heat treatment for zucchini infested with bactrocera cucumis (diptera: tephritidae).zucchini, cucurbita pepo l., infested with 22-h-old eggs of bactrocera cucumis (french) were completely disinfested using a vapor heat treatment of 45 degrees c with > 94% rh for 30 min. an estimated total of 178,219 eggs (22 h old) was treated without survivors, thus achieving probit 9 mortality. twenty-two-h-old eggs were significantly more tolerant of heat than first, second, or third instars. all treatments were done in a sanshu model ehk-1000b vapor heat treatment system.19938432953
loop-mediated isothermal amplification combined with pcr for rapid identification of the ethiopian fruit fly (diptera: tephritidae).nowadays, with increasing trend of trans-boundary transportation of agricultural products and higher probability of introduction of many invasive species into new areas, fast and precise species diagnosis is of great significance particularly at the port of entry, where morphological identification often requires adult insect specimens especially with specialist insects. the cucumber fruit fly, dacus ciliatus loew (diptera: tephritidae), ranks as one of the most destructive agricultural pests at ...028478540
multiple mating by females of two bactrocera species (diptera: tephritidae: dacinae).multiple mating was investigated in two tephritid species when females were under minimal male pressure because they were each confined with a single male in cages 20 x 20 x 20 cm and observed daily until they died. laboratory-reared females of bactrocera cucumis (french) lived up to 274 days and refractory periods averaged 59-63 days. however, the distribution of matings among b. cucumis females was not significantly different to that expected by chance. wild females of bactrocera cacuminata (h ...201019939317
spiroacetal biosynthesis in fruit flies is complex: distinguishable origins of the same major spiroacetal released by different bactrocera spp.the major spiroacetal ((e,e)-1) of the pestiferous fruit flies, bactrocera tryoni and bactrocera cucumis, is biosynthesised from fatty acids by distinguishable pathways which utilise modified beta-oxidation and c-h hydroxylation, generating a putative ketodiol which cyclises.201020162170
monooxygenase stereoselectivity in the biosynthesis of stereoisomeric spiroacetals in the cucumber fly, bactrocera cucumis.[reaction: see text] the stereoselectivity of hydroxylation of alkyltetrahydropyran-2-ols (or their biological equivalents) in the formation of stereoisomers of 2,8-dimethyl-1,7-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecanes in male bactrocera cucumis has been investigated. racemic, (6r)-, and (6s)-6-methyl-2-[5-(2)h(1)]-n-pentyltetrahydropyran-2-ol was administered under an [(18)o(2)]-enriched atmosphere. the stereochemistry and isotopic composition of generated spiroacetals were monitored by combined enantioselecti ...200212153232
