arbovirus vector ecology studies in mexico during the 1972 venezuelan equine encephalitis outbreak.virus vector studies were conducted in the states of durango, chihuahua, and tamaulipas, mexico, in june and july 1972. apparently only a low level of venzuelan equine encephalitis (vee) virus transmission to equines occured at the time of the study, and the infection was restricted to areas which had not experienced overt activity during the preceding year. the low level of infection was associated with a scarcity of mosquitoes. the ib (epidemic) strain of vee virus was isolated from two pools ...1975235213
isolation of turlock virus and a member of the bunyamwera group, probably cache valley virus, from alberta mosquitoes. 19684385087
antigenic relationships among turlock serogroup bunyaviruses as determined by neutralization tests.antigenic relationships between the five recognized turlock serogroup viruses (family bunyaviridae, genus bunyavirus) were determined by serum dilution-plaque reduction neutralization tests. results indicated that turlock , umbre , m' poko and lednice viruses are distinct from each other and that yaba -1 virus is a subtype of m' poko virus.19846203387
experimental infections of birds with turlock virus.two experiments were conducted with five gallinaceous and one passerine bird species to determine their responses to turlock (tur) virus inoculations. inoculation of tur strain 847-32 into bobwhites, chukars, ring-necked pheasants, chickens, and japanese quail did not product detectable viremias. the first four species, however, did respond with neutralizing antibody. inoculation of chickens with strain 69v-1095 resulted in a viremia which lasted 5 days and had a peak mean titer of 2.0 log 10 pf ...19836411942
turlock virus infection and transmission by culex mosquitoes (diptera: culicidae). 19836417333
radioimmune assays and molecular studies that place anopheles b and turlock serogroup viruses in the bunyavirus genus (bunyaviridae).molecular analyses indicate that turlock virus (tur, turlock serogroup) and boraceia virus (bor, anopheles b serogroup) have virion rna species and polypeptides comparable in size to those of members of the bunyavirus genus and unlike those of members of the newly defined phlebovirus, nairovirus, or uukuvirus genera (bunyaviridae). the 11 terminal 3' end nucleotides of the three virion rna species of both bor and tur viruses (houcaucacaug...) are identical in sequence to the 3' end sequences of ...19817258499
turlock-like bunyavirus associated with encephalomyelitis and myocarditis in an ostrich chick.in the fall of 1995, a 20-day-old female ostrich chick, 1 of a group of 20, was presented live with clinical signs of 2 days duration characterized by unsteady gait, circling to the left, and walking backward. another bird with similar clinical signs had died and another had recovered. the bird was euthanized and examined at necropsy. twenty-five milliliters of serous fluid was in the abdominal cavity and there was increased pericardial fluid. histopathology of the brain revealed mild to moderat ...200212296386
molecular characterization of umbre virus (bunyaviridae).umbre (umb) virus was first isolated from india in 1955 and classified as orthobunyavirus (turlock serogroup). eight isolates of this virus, isolated from culex mosquitoes were characterized on the basis of partial glycoprotein (g2) gene. twenty-six percent differences at nucleotide level while 17% differences at amino acid level were noted within different isolates. phylogentic data shows that this virus represents a distinct group within the genus orthobunyavirus.200818842123
genetic and phylogenetic characterization of tataguine and witwatersrand viruses and other orthobunyaviruses of the anopheles a, capim, guamá, koongol, mapputta, tete, and turlock serogroups.the family bunyaviridae has more than 530 members that are distributed among five genera or remain to be classified. the genus orthobunyavirus is the most diverse bunyaviral genus with more than 220 viruses that have been assigned to more than 18 serogroups based on serological cross-reactions and limited molecular-biological characterization. sequence information for all three orthobunyaviral genome segments is only available for viruses belonging to the bunyamwera, bwamba/pongola, california e ...201526610546

novel orthobunyavirus causing severe kidney disease in broiler chickens, malaysia, 2014-2017.during 2014-2017, we isolated a novel orthobunyavirus from broiler chickens with severe kidney lesions in the state of kedah, malaysia; we named the virus kedah fatal kidney syndrome virus (kfksv). affected chickens became listless and diarrheic before dying suddenly. necropsies detected pale and swollen kidneys with signs of gout, enlarged and fragile livers, and pale hearts. experimental infection of broiler chickens with kfksv reproduced the disease and pathologic conditions observed in the f ...201931107212
