fine structure of ascosporogenesis in nematospora coryli peglion, a pathogenic yeast.observations with the electron microscope of the early stages of ascospore formation in nematospora coryli peglion reveal the following sequence of events. partial dissociation of the nuclear membrane is followed by the appearance of unit membranes. each unit membrane gives rise to two pairs of double membranes delimiting the ascospores from the epiplasm of the ascus. enlarged mitochondria which have a granular matrix and limited cristae development are also regularly seen.19724110151
nematospora sinecauda sp. nov., a yeast pathogen of mustard seeds.an undescribed yeast species was recovered from oriental (brassica juncea) and yellow (b. hirta) mustard seeds. the new species most closely resembled nematospora coryli but its asci were rarely cylindrical. the asci and ascospores of n. sinecauda were smaller and the spores did not possess a whip-like appendage. during germination a sprout cell formed first on the smooth anterior surface of the spore above the median ridge. the posterior region of the spore was decorated with interrupted concen ...19846524909
xylaramide, a new antifungal compound, and other secondary metabolites from xylaria longipes.xylaramide (1), possessing potent antifungal activity towards nematospora coryli and saccharomyces cerevisiae, was isolated from the culture fluids of the wood-inhabiting ascomycete xylaria longipes together with tyrosol (2), 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (3) and 2-hexyli-dene-3-methylsuccinic acid (4). the latter has been known as a xylaria metabolite for many years. compounds 2 and 3 have been previously reported from other fungi, whereas 1 is a new natural n-(2-phenylethenyl)-2-hydroxypropanami ...19969031523
production of sordarin and related metabolites by the coprophilous fungus podospora pleiospora in submerged culture and in its natural substrate.rabbit pellets collected from the field were colonized by podospora pleiospora at the exclusion of other coprophilous fungi, suggesting antibiosis. in liquid culture, p. pleiospora produced sordarin (1); sordarin b (2), a new compound in which sordarose is replaced by rhamnose; hydroxysordarin (3); and sordaricin (4). the major compounds 1 and 2 exhibited minimum inhibitory concentrations of 0.5-2.5 microg ml(-1) against the yeasts nematospora coryli and sporobolomyces roseus, but showed little ...200516018317
fermentation and antimicrobial activities of extracts from different species of fungus belonging to genus, trichoderma.the present paper discusses the effects of the crude extracts of trichoderma spp. on a number of fungal and bacterial organisms. these include paecilomyces variotii, penicillium notatum, nematospora corylii, mucor miehei, bacillus brevis, bacillus subtilis, enterobacter dissolvens and sarcina lutea. the culture broth extracts of different isolates of trichoderma harzianum, t. longibrachiatum and t. koningii cultured in different media were investigated individually for in-vitro antifungal and an ...200417298115
a molecular toolbox for manipulating eremothecium coryli.the genus eremothecium contains dimorphic and filamentous fungal species, most notably eremothecium sinecaudum (holleya sinecauda), a dimorphic plant pathogen, which was isolated from mustard seeds, and eremothecium gossypii (ashbya gossypii), a filamentous fungus, which is well known for its ability to produce riboflavin. in this study, we present the initial molecular characterization of another eremothecium species classified as eremothecium coryli. e.coryli is a dimorphic fungus. we have dev ...200717716882
potential for nezara viridula (hemiptera: pentatomidae) to transmit bacterial and fungal pathogens into cotton bolls.recently, we showed that the southern green stink bug (sgsb), nezara viridula (l.), can transmit pantoea agglomerans (ewing and fife), an opportunistic bacterium, into green cotton bolls resulting in plant disease. here, we hypothesized that our established model could be used to determine if the sgsb was a general, non-discriminate vector by using two other opportunistic bacterial pathogens of bolls (pantoea ananatis [serano] and klebsiella pneumoniae [schroeter]) and the known fungal pathogen ...200919636620
oxylipin covered ascospores of eremothecium coryli.eremothecium coryli is known to produce intriguing spindle-shaped ascospores with long and thin whip-like appendages. here, ultra structural studies using scanning electron microscopy, indicate that these appendages serve to coil around themselves and around ascospores causing spore aggregation. furthermore, using immunofluorescence confocal laser scanning microscopy it was found that hydrophobic 3-hydroxy oxylipins cover the surfaces of these ascospores. using gas chromatography-mass spectromet ...200616328860
chromosome number reduction in eremothecium coryli by two telomere-to-telomere fusions.the genus eremothecium belongs to the saccharomyces complex of pre-whole-genome duplication (wgd) yeasts and contains both dimorphic and filamentous species. we established the 9.1-mb draft genome of eremothecium coryli, which encodes 4,682 genes, 186 trna genes, and harbors several ty3 transposons as well as more than 60 remnants of transposition events (ltrs). the initial de novo assembly resulted in 19 scaffolds, which were assembled based on synteny to other eremothecium genomes into six chr ...201424803574
