Bacterial skin flora variation and in vitro inhibitory activity against Saprolegnia parasitica in brown and rainbow trout.Variations in the number and diversity of bacteria from the skin of brown trout Salmo trutta L. and rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum were surveyed from different rivers and fish farms in northern Spain. In addition to determining bacterial populations in skin samples of healthy fish, bacterial populations were determined from skin lesions (of brown trout only) infected with Saprolegnia parasitica, the causal agent of saprolegniosis. Mean bacterial counts from skin lesions of brown trout ...201122013752
deefgea rivuli gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the class betaproteobacteria.two strains, designated wb 3.4-79(t) and wb 3.3-25, were isolated from a hard-water sample collected from the westerhöfer bach, lower saxony, germany. the strains shared 100 % dna-dna relatedness, indicating membership of the same genospecies. this close relationship was supported by identical 16s rrna gene sequences and high similarities in fatty acid composition and biochemical characteristics. the g+c content of the genomic dna of strain wb 3.4-79(t) was 48.5 mol% and the predominant ubiquino ...200717329799
silvimonas terrae gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel chitin-degrading facultative anaerobe belonging to the 'betaproteobacteria'.a taxonomic study was carried out on a bacterial strain, designated km-45t, isolated from forest soil collected near daejeon, south korea. comparative 16s rrna gene sequence analysis indicated a clear affiliation of this bacterium to the 'betaproteobacteria' and that it was related most closely to chitinibacter tainanensis bcrc 17254t, formivibrio citricus dsm 6150t and iodobacter fluviatilis atcc 33051t (92.4, 91.2 and 88.9 % 16s rrna gene sequence similarity, respectively). cells were gram-neg ...200516280491
chitinibacter tainanensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a chitin-degrading aerobe from soil in taiwan.five strains with strong chitinolytic activity were isolated from a soil sample collected from southern taiwan. the strains shared more than 92% dna-dna similarity, indicating membership of the same genospecies. this close relationship was supported by high similarities in fatty acid composition and biochemical characteristics. a 16s rrna gene sequence analysis indicated that the isolates were members of the class 'betaproteobacteria', in which they formed an individual subline of descent that w ...200415280319
thauera selenatis gen. nov., sp. nov., a member of the beta subclass of proteobacteria with a novel type of anaerobic respiration.a recently isolated, selenate-respiring microorganism (strain axt [t = type strain]) was classified by using a polyphasic approach in which both genotypic and phenotypic characteristics were determined. strain axt is a motile, gram-negative, rod-shaped organism with a single polar flagellum. on the basis of phenotypic characteristics, this organism can be classified as a pseudomonas sp. however, a comparison of the 16s rrna sequence of strain axt with the sequences of other organisms indicated t ...19938427805
phylogenetic position of taylorella equigenitalis determined by analysis of amplified 16s ribosomal dna sequences.the 16s ribosomal dna sequence of taylorella equigenitalis (formerly haemophilus equigenitalis), the causative organism of contagious equine metritis, was determined. a phylogenetic analysis of this sequence revealed a phylogenetic position of t. equigenitalis in the beta subclass of the class proteobacteria apart from the position of haemophilus influenzae, which belongs to the gamma subclass of proteobacteria. a close phylogenetic relationship among t. equigenitalis, alcaligenes xylosoxidans, ...19938347520
