[dormancy characteristic and inner inhibitory substances of fructus schisandrae].it has been found for the first time that there is quite a number inhibitory substances in the testa and kernel of dormant fructus schisandrae. differences have alas been found between the inhibitor extracted from the testa and that from the kernel. the fromer is stronger in inhibiting the root elongatain of brassica sp, whereas the latter is stonger in inhibiting the seeds germination. the result shows that the dormancy of fructus schisandrae the inhibitors contained in the testa and kernel.199710683903
field evaluation of herbal mosquito repellents.repellent properties of zanthoxylum armatum dc. syn. z. alatum roxb. (timur), curcuma aromatica (jungli haldi) and azadirachta indica (neem) oils were evaluated against mosquitoes in mustard (brassica sp.) and coconut (cocos sp.) oil base and compared with synthetic repellent. dimethyl phthalate (dmp) as standard. timur and jungli haldi afforded better protection in the both the base at all the concentrations. tepellents in mustard oil gave longer protection time than those in coconut oil. at 0. ...199910937301
a pollen coat protein, sp11/scr, determines the pollen s-specificity in the self-incompatibility of brassica species.many flowering plants have evolved self-incompatibility (si) systems to prevent inbreeding. in the brassicaceae, si is genetically controlled by a single polymorphic locus, termed the s-locus. pollen rejection occurs when stigma and pollen share the same s-haplotype. recognition of s-haplotype specificity has recently been shown to involve at least two s-locus genes, s-receptor kinase (srk) and s-locus protein 11 or s-locus cys-rich (sp11/scr). srk encodes a polymorphic membrane-spanning protein ...200111299389
detection of the plant pathogenic bacterium xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris in seed extracts of brassica sp. applying fluorescent antibodies and flow cytometry.xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (xcc) is a seed-transmitted plant pathogenic bacterium that causes black rot of crucifers. seed lots and plants are screened for contamination with this pathogen using plating or serological assays. these methods, however, are time consuming and not very sensitive, respectively. therefore, flow cytometry (fcm) was evaluated as a tool for the rapid detection and quantification of xcc cells labeled with a mixture of specific fluorescein isothicyanate (fitc)-mo ...200211813202
the c-s lyases of higher plants : isolation and properties of homogeneous cystine lyase from broccoli (brassica oleracea var botrytis) buds.cystine lyase degrades l-cystine by a beta-elimination to form cysteine persulfide, pyruvate, and ammonia. this enzyme is common in brassica sp. and has been purified to homogeneity from extracts of broccoli (brassica oleracea var botrytis) buds. two isozymes were separated on deae-fractogel columns and the first peak, cystine lyase i further purified to homogeneity. the purified enzyme had a narrow range of substrate specificity with l-cystine and s-alkyl-l-cysteine sulfoxides being the primary ...198616664688
sulphur limitation and early sulphur deficiency responses in poplar: significance of gene expression, metabolites, and plant hormones.the influence of sulphur (s) depletion on the expression of genes related to s metabolism, and on metabolite and plant hormone contents was analysed in young and mature leaves, fine roots, xylem sap, and phloem exudates of poplar (populus tremula×populus alba) with special focus on early consequences. s depletion was applied by a gradual decrease of sulphate availability. the observed changes were correlated with sulphate contents. based on the decrease in sulphate contents, two phases of s depl ...201122162873
cytochrome p450 cyp79f1 from arabidopsis catalyzes the conversion of dihomomethionine and trihomomethionine to the corresponding aldoximes in the biosynthesis of aliphatic glucosinolates.glucosinolates are natural plant products that have received rising attention due to their role in interactions between pests and crop plants and as chemical protectors against cancer. glucosinolates are derived from amino acids and have aldoximes as intermediates. we report that cytochrome p450 cyp79f1 catalyzes aldoxime formation in the biosynthesis of aliphatic glucosinolates in arabidopsis thaliana. using recombinant cyp79f1 functionally expressed in escherichia coli, we show that both dihom ...200111133994
diversity of frankia strains nodulating hippophae salicifolia d. don using fame profiling as chemotaxonomic markers.twelve frankia strains isolated from hippophae salicifolia d. don or alnus glutinosa or comptonia peregrine, showed the significant variation in fatty acid composition viz. palmitic acid (16:0), oleic acid (18:1), linoleic acid (18:2), linolenic acid (18:3), arachidic acid (20:0) and erucic acid (22:1) suggesting the strain specific variability among the frankia strains. presence of erucic acid (22:1), a major component of the oil obtained from the seeds of brassica sp., albeit in lesser amount ...201020473962
phytotoxicity of hexachlorocyclohexane: effect on germination and early growth of different plant species.the aim of the present study was to select candidate plant species for phytoremediation of soils contaminated with hexachlorocyclohexane (hch). for this purpose, an experiment was carried out under controlled conditions of germination and growth, with nine plant species of economic and/or agricultural interest, in a soil contaminated with a heterogeneous mixture (at eight different levels of contamination) of the main hch isomers (alpha-, beta-, gamma- and delta-hch). the results revealed differ ...201020172584
[study on endogenesis inhibitory substances in seed of thesium chinense].to investigate the activity and the location of the endogenesis inhibitory substances in seed of of thesium chinense.200717992988
perchlorate, thiocyanate, and nitrate in edible cole crops (brassica sp.) produced in the lower colorado river region.the colorado river is contaminated with low levels of perchlorate. perchlorate has the potential to disrupt thyroid function by inhibiting the uptake of iodide. brassica are rich sources of thiocyanate and nitrate, also inhibitors of iodide uptake. this study was conducted to estimate potential human exposure to perchlorate, thiocyanate, and nitrate from brassica sp. irrigated with colorado river water. results indicate that brassica sp. irrigated with colorado river water do accumulate trace le ...200717962898
involvement of cytochrome p450 in glucosinolate biosynthesis in white mustard (a biochemical anomaly).one of the first steps in glucosinolate biosynthesis is the conversion of amino acids to their aldoximes. the biochemistry of this process is controversial, and several very different enzyme systems have been described. the major glucosinolate in white mustard (sinapis alba) is sinalbin, which is derived from tyrosine via its aldoxime, and this conversion is catalyzed by a cytochrome p450 (cyt p450) monooxygenase. phenylethyl- and alkenylglucosinolates are also present in white mustard leaves, a ...199712223771
