action of bacterial growth on the sarcoplasmic and urea-soluble proteins from muscle. i. effects of clostridium perfringens, salmonella enteritidis, achromobacter liquefaciens, streptococcus faecalis, and kurthia zopfi.comparisons of the starch-gel patterns of uninoculated aseptic control samples from rabbit and pig muscle with similar samples inoculated and incubated with clostridium perfringens, salmonella enteritidis, achromobacter liquefaciens, and kurthia zopfii were made. results indicated that c. perfringens caused extensive alteration in the proteins or enzymes, or both, of the sarcoplasmic fraction of porcine muscle, whereas s. enteritidis and s. faecalis caused complete breakdown of only myoglobin. n ...19704318570
numerical taxonomy of certain coryneform bacteria.da silva, g. a. nigel (iowa state university, ames), and john g. holt. numerical taxonomy of certain coryneform bacteria. j. bacteriol. 90:921-927. 1965-an electronic computer was used to sort 32 strains of coryneforms into groups with the tree-sort program. the similarity values obtained in this procedure were then used to construct a dendrogram depicting the phenetic resemblance among the taxa. the results indicated that all the phytopathogens studied were sufficiently distinct from the type s ...19654954898
physiological and morphological characteristics of kurthia zopfii isolated from meat products. 19695369169
[morphologic and physiologic-biochemical characteristics of kurthia zopfii].comparative studies were made employing thirteen new isolates of kurthia zopfii and strain atcc 10538. it was shown that the cell wall of k. zopfii contained lysine, glycine, alanine, leucine, valine, aspartic and glutamic acids, ribose. the guanine plus cytosine content of deoxyribonucleic acid was 37-38 mol%. the simple post-fission cell movement was demonstrated. the obtained results are discussed against the practice of including the kurthia into the group of coryneform bacteria.19806771494
numerical classification of some rhodococci, corynebacteria and related organisms.nineteen strains of corynebacterium sensu stricto, 23 received as corynebacterium equi or rhodococcus equi, marker cultures of arthrobacter, brevibacterium, bacterionema matruchotii, cellulomonas flavigena, kurthia zopfii, listeria denitrificans, microbacterium lacticum, rhodococcus rubropertinctus and 88 representatives of mycobacterium, nocardia, rhodococcus and the 'aurantiaca' taxon were the subject of numerical phenetic analyses using 92 characters. the data were examined using the simple m ...19826811696
a ribosomal dna fragment of listeria monocytogenes and its use as a genus-specific probe in an aqueous-phase hybridization assay.cdnas were prepared from the total rna of listeria monocytogenes atcc 19118 and used as probes to screen a genomic library of the same strain. four clones were identified which contained ribosomal dna fragments. recombinant dna from one of them was fractionated and differentially hybridized with the cdna probes to rna of l. monocytogenes and kurthia zopfii. the resulting hybridization pattern revealed an hpaii fragment of 0.8 kb that was specific for the l. monocytogenes strain. the nucleotide s ...19938368854
suppression of leaf feeding and oviposition of phytophagous ladybird beetles (coleoptera: coccinellidae) by chitinase gene-transformed phylloplane bacteria and their specific bacteriophages entrapped in alginate gel beads.the chitinase gene-transformed strain kpm-007e/chi of enterobacter cloacae was vitally entrapped in sodium alginate gel beads with its specific virulent bacteriophage ecp-01 to provide a new method for microbially digesting chitinous peritrophic membranes of phytophagous ladybird beetles epilachna vigintioctopunctata. first, chitinase sh1 from a gram-positive bacterium kurthia zopfii was overproduced by escherichia coli cells and purified by affinity column chromatography. the purified enzyme ef ...200312852588
induced sensitivity of bacillus subtilis colony morphology to mechanical media compression.bacteria from several taxa, including kurthia zopfii, myxococcus xanthus, and bacillus mycoides, have been reported to align growth of their colonies to small features on the surface of solid media, including anisotropies created by compression. while the function of this phenomenon is unclear, it may help organisms navigate on solid phases, such as soil. the origin of this behavior is also unknown: it may be biological (that is, dependent on components that sense the environment and regulate gr ...201425289183
kurthia huakuii sp. nov., isolated from biogas slurry, and emended description of the genus kurthia.a novel facultatively anaerobic bacterium, designated strain lam0618(t), was isolated from biogas slurry samples collected from the large-scale anaerobic digester of modern farming corporation in hebei province, china. cells of strain lam0618(t) were gram-stain-positive, motile, non-spore-forming and short-rod-shaped. the optimal temperature and ph for growth were 30 °c and 7.0, respectively. the strain did not require nacl for growth but tolerated up to 70 g nacl l(-1). the major fatty acids of ...201424108326
the vitamin requirements of kurthia zopfii and kurthia gibsonii.the vitamin requirements of 17 k. gibsonii strains, 41 k. zopfii strains and 11 presumptive kurthia isolates which could not be assigned to either species, were determined. when supplied with casamino acids and/or casitone the k. gibsonii strains required biotin + thiamine for growth whereas the k. zopfii strains required biotin + thiamine + pantothenic acid. the difference in their requirements provides support for the existence of the two species within the genus. eight of the 11 presumptive k ...198323194801
a numerical taxonomic study of the genus kurthia with a revised description of kurthia zopfii and a description of kurthia gibsonii sp. nov.one hundred and twelve strains including fresh isolates of kurthia from a wide variety of habitats and named reference strains of the genera arthrobacter, bacillus, brevibacterium, cellulomonas, corynebacterium, curtobacterium, "flavobacterium', kurthia, microbacterium, nocardia and rhodococcus were tested for 192 morphological, cultural, biochemical, and physiological characters. various numerical analyses were performed on the data. all reference strains and most fresh isolates of kurthia form ...198323194597
