pertussis toxin in the a10 region increases dopamine synthesis and metabolism.inhibitory regulation of dopamine neurons is mediated by dopamine autoreceptor and gamma-aminobutyric acidb receptor opening of potassium channels. increased potassium conductance by either receptor is g protein dependent. to evaluate the role of g proteins in vivo, pertussis toxin (ptx) was microinjected into the a10 dopamine region and changes in dopamine metabolism and synthesis measured. ptx produced an elevation in dopamine metabolism and synthesis in the a10 region and nucleus accumbens fo ...19921346627
detection of leprosy antigenuria through dot-elisa.fifty-five samples of urine from different grades of leprosy patients and normal persons were processed for detection of pgl-1 antigen through dot-elisa on nitrocellulose paper strips using anti-human igg horse raddish peroxidaseconjugate. about 66.6% of the paucibacillary and 100% of the multibacillary leprosy cases were detectable through this technique on the basis of differential colour development on the strips. possibility of its use in the field conditions has been discussed.19883075632
monoclonal antibodies against mouse gamma-interferon inhibit tumoricidal macrophage activation by t lymphocytes.a monoclonal antibody, an-18.17.24, specific for murine interferon-gamma (ifn-gamma) was produced by immunizing wistar rats with ifn-gamma secreted by a t-cell lymphoma, l12-r4, upon stimulation with phorbol myristic acetate (pma). antiviral activity as well as tumoricidal activation induced by pma-stimulated l12-r4 cell supernatant or by con a-stimulated normal spleen cells were neutralized at the same extent by an-18 monoclonal antibody. moreover, depletion experiments showed that inhibition o ...19853930308

a 5-year follow-up study of 117 battered women.this paper reports register data concerning somatic and psychiatric hospital care on 117 battered women who were identified in a surgical emergency department and offered a treatment program. data were collected during a period of 10 years before to 5 years after the battering in question. it was concluded that the battered woman seeks hospital care much more than the average woman of the same age. it is, however, not only traumatic injuries that bring her to the hospital, but also medical, gyne ...20071951810
protein-metabolism kinetics and energy-substrate utilization in infants fed parenteral solutions with different glucose-fat ratios.the relative effect of glucose and lipids on whole-body protein-metabolism kinetics was assessed in seven infants undergoing parenteral feeding. protein intake was kept constant and nonprotein energy was either provided as glucose alone or as an isoenergetic glucose-lipid mixture according to a randomized crossover trial. protein metabolism and energy-substrate utilization were assessed by a primed, constant l-[13c]leucine infusion, combined with indirect calorimetry. there was a significant dif ...20071907091
gilles de la tourette's syndrome and schizophrenia.a gilles de la tourette's syndrome (ts) patient is described who experienced a schizophrenic episode 11 years after ts onset. analogies and differences between the two syndromes are reviewed, leading to the conclusion that ts is a definite entity independent from schizophrenia, but that they share some common features of symptomatology and pathophysiology and have closely related anatomical lesions.20123457099
