[human myiasis in middle europe].a report is given on 4 cases of myiasis of the mucous membrane of different localisation and etiology observed in the gdr (vaginal myiasis by lucilia sericata, urethral and vesicular myiasis by calliphora vicina, rectal myiasis by sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis and ophthalmomyiasis by oestrus ovis). biological peculiarities and habits of life of the causative organisms, pathogenesis of the different forms of parasitosis in man and clinical pictures are described. the cases mentioned show that occasi ...19751163070
some myiasis producers in cairo and giza abattoirs.the most important insects from medical point of view, are the blood suckers or the insect-borne diseases. still others, almost non-blood suckers, but may attack man and animal to deposit their eggs or larvae causing pathogenic condition known as myiasis. in the present paper, a total of nine myiasis producing dipterous flies were collected from cairo and giza abattoirs. they were: musca d. vicina, calliphora vicina, chrysomyia albiceps, c. marginalis, lucilia sericata, l. cuprina, sarcophaga ha ...19911875078
aural myiasis caused by flesh fly larva, sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis.during the years 1990 to 1993, four cases of aural myiasis in children, caused by the flesh fly larvae of sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis, are reported. the patients were admitted to the emergency room complaining of discharging ear, otalgia, and itching. flesh fly larvae were removed after local treatment and identified as sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis. these cases are discussed with a review of the literature.19948064961
myiasis in leprosy.during the 1989-1991 year period, leprosy patients with various ulcers, attending the surgical o.p.d. at cjil, agra were seen. of these, 64 cases were found to be infested with maggots. live maggots were collected in all cases from different sites viz. nasal cavity, hand, great toe and second toe. it was possible to rear the maggots into flies in 53 out of 64 cases. in 11 cases the maggots did not survive and died in the early part of their life cycle. four different types of flies were identifi ...19938213049
population dynamics of some synanthropic fly species in different habitats in buraydah, saudi arabia.the population dynamics of five synanthropic fly species, chrysomyia rufifacies, musca d. domestica muscina stabulans f. sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis, and stomoxys calcitrans, were studied at three different habitats in buraydah, saudi arabia. the chosen habitats were the slaughter house, the cattle market and the rubbish dumps. the number of flies caught per twenty sticky bands was taken monthly, for a whole year, as an index to the fly population at that habitat during that month. m. d. domestic ...19938482859
insecticidal activity of calotropis procera extracts of the flesh fly, sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis fallen.the insecticidal activity, expressed by ld50 values, of acetone, ethanol, petroleum ether and water extracts of calotropis procera leaves against the flesh fly, sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis fallen was evaluated in the laboratory. based on ld50 values, ethanol extract was nearly 1.7, 1.3 and 1.3 times more toxic to larvae than water, petroleum ether and acetone extracts, respectively. it was 1.9, 1.4 and 1.2 times more toxic to pupae than water, acetone and petroleum ether extracts, respectively. i ...19979257990
three case studies in forensic entomology from southern italy.three cases of forensic interest regarding the estimation of postmortem interval (pmi) by entomological data are presented. the three cases concerning criminal investigations were performed in southern italy by the entomological laboratory of the institute of forensic medicine at the university of bari. for each case the authors present a detailed description of the remains as observed at the crime scene and a description of the arthropods collected from the remains. the pmi estimation was based ...19989456548
effects of temperature on sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis (diptera: sarcophagidae) development.growth curves were studied for the larva and pupa of sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis (fallen) under cyclic temperatures with means of 15.6, 21.1, 26.7, and 35 degrees c, and a constant temperature of 25 degrees c. development from 1st instar to adult under all regimes ranged from 252 to 802 h. a constant temperature of 25 degrees c produced a range of pupation times from 93 to 153 h, with adult emergence ranging from 252 to 502 h. a maximal preferential temperature of 30 degrees c was determined for ...19989775595
molecular identification of necrophagous muscidae and sarcophagidae fly species collected in korea by mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit i nucleotide sequences.identification of insect species is an important task in forensic entomology. for more convenient species identification, the nucleotide sequences of cytochrome c oxidase subunit i (coi) gene have been widely utilized. we analyzed full-length coi nucleotide sequences of 10 muscidae and 6 sarcophagidae fly species collected in korea. after dna extraction from collected flies, pcr amplification and automatic sequencing of the whole coi sequence were performed. obtained sequences were analyzed for ...201424982938
intestinal myiasis.intestinal myiasis is a condition when the fly larvae inhabit the gastrointestinal tract and are passed out in faeces. this type of infestation results when eggs or larvae of the fly, deposited on food are inadvertently taken by man. they survive the unfavourable conditions within the gastrointestinal tract and produce disturbances, which may vary from mild to severe. the condition is not uncommon and is often misdiagnosed as pinworm infestation. correct diagnosis by the clinical microbiologist ...201222885201
human wound myiasis caused by phormia regina and sarcophaga haemorrhoidalis in minia governorate, egypt.myiasis is the parasitic infestation of human by the larvae (maggots) of dipterous fly that grow within the host while feeding on its tissue. cutaneous myiasis is the most considerably encountered clinical form. moreover, wound (traumatic) myiasis is the main clinical manifestation of cutaneous myiasis. in this research, we aimed to study the type of infesting larvae that are responsible for wound myiasis in the patients in minia city, egypt. three cases of wound myiasis have been noticed among ...201526122995
