a 3-year epidemiological surveillance of escherichia coli o157:h7 in dogs and cats in japan.for three years investigations from 1996 to 1998, we tried to isolate escherichia coli o157:h7 from fecal samples collected from dogs and cats. in results, e. coli o157:h7 was isolated from 1 out of 614 samples (0.16%). this isolate produced stx1 and stx2 and was isolated from a dog kept by a human patient infected with e. coli o157:h7. excluding in this case, dogs and cats as companion animals, therefore, may not give harbor to e. coli o157:h7.201020124764
prevalence and characterization of shiga toxin-producing escherichia coli o157 and o26 in beef farms.rectal content grab samples were collected from 2436 beef cattle reared on 406 beef farms in japan between november 2007 and march 2008. stec strains o157 and o26 were isolated from 110 (27.1%) and 7 (1.7%) farms, respectively. farms that tested positive for stec o157 were located in 35 out of all 47 japanese prefectures. this indicates that stec o157 strains are widespread on beef farms nationwide. of the 2436 tested beef cattle, 218 (8.9%) and 10 (0.4%) had stec strains o157 and o26 in the rec ...201121292409
studies on babesia first found in murine in japan: epidemiology, morphology and experimental infection.during the period from november 1980 to september 1982, 314 small wild mammals were captured in 5 localities in japan. twenty-six out of 86 apodemus speciosus and one out of 6 a. argenteus both species captured in shiga prefecture (35 degrees 02'n, 135 degrees 50'e, 330 m elev .) were positive for babesia. the parasitemia in those animals was generally low. the infection rate did not show any significant difference between sexes of the host or between seasons, whereas it tended to go up with the ...19846730782

analysis of body-length distribution of dirofilaria immitis in the cardio-pulmonary blood vessel of naturally infected dogs in shiga prefecture, japan.body-length frequencies of dirofilaria immitis collected from the cardio-pulmonary blood vessel of the dogs were studied in shiga prefecture. japan, in october 1983 and in january and may 1984. the frequencies were not distributed normally because they included the populations of shorter-bodied worms, probably the growing younger worms, whereas the distributions of the body length of worms collected in july 1983 were proved to fit the single normal distribution. from the results of body-length d ...19921558889
