an outbreak of type 2 dengue fever in the seychelles, probably transmitted by aedes albopictus (skuse).between december 1976 and september 1977 the seychelles group of islands in the indian ocean was struck by an extensive epidemic of dengue fever. the peak of the epidemic was in the last week of february. type 2 dengue virus was isolated from patients and mosquitos. aedes albopictus was the sole vector. the clinical picture was that of classical dengue. haemorrhagic fever and the shock syndrome were not observed.absenteeism from schools and offices, anamnestic questioning, and prevalence of anti ...19806971192
dengue in the seychelles.epidemics of dengue-like illness occurred in the seychelles from december 1976 to april 1977 and from december 1978 to january 1979. dengue 2 virus was isolated from individuals who had been in the seychelles in 1977. from february to april 1979, sera were collected from outpatients in mahé, seychelles, who had not previously been hospitalized with a dengue-like illness. results of neutralization tests with these sera indicated that prevalence rates for the four dengue viruses were between 81% a ...19816976229
pulmonary haemorrhage as a predominant cause of death in leptospirosis in seychelles.we examined the cause of death during a 12-month period (1995/96) in all consecutive patients admitted to hospital with leptospiral infection in seychelles (indian ocean), where the disease is endemic. leptospirosis was diagnosed by use of the microscopic agglutination test and a specific polymerase chain reaction assay on serum samples. seventy-five cases were diagnosed and 6 patients died, a case fatality of 8%. all 6 patients died within 9 days of onset of symptoms and within 2 days of admiss ...200010748905

the mosquitoes (diptera: culidae) of seychelles: taxonomy, ecology, vectorial importance, and identification keys.during recent periods, the islands of the republic of seychelles experienced many diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, bancroft's filaria and malaria. mosquitoes transmit the agents that cause these diseases. published information on mosquitoes in the seychelles is notably dispersed in the literature. the maximum number of species obtained on a single field survey does not exceed 14 species.201222999320
an outbreak of dengue virus (denv) type 2 cosmopolitan genotype in israeli travellers returning from the seychelles, april 2017.dengue virus infection was diagnosed in six israeli travellers returning from the seychelles in april 2017. phylogenetic analysis identified identical sequences belonging to the cosmopolitan genotype of dengue virus type 2 in all samples sequenced, thus providing evidence for a probable dengue type 2 outbreak in the seychelles. this report further demonstrates the role of travellers as sentinels for arboviral infections, especially in countries with limited diagnostic capabilities.201728681719
