studies on cysticercosis of small ruminants in nigeria.1,132 animals (720 goats and 412 sheep) brought to the ibadan abbatoir within a six month-period were examined during necropsy for the presence of cysticercus tenuicollis. c. tenuicollis was found in 20.97% and 23.30% of goats and sheep respectively. in both species, female animals were more predisposed to infection and it appears that adult animals were more susceptible. there was a low degree of infection during the dry season. the economic and public health importance of this disease are disc ...19836676341

prevalence and seasonal changes in the gastro-intestinal helminths of nigerian goats.a total of 120 gastro-intestinal tracts and 960 faecal samples were examined to assess the prevalence and seasonal changes in the gastro-intestinal helminth parasites of red sokoto (maradi) goats slaughtered at ibadan between may 1991 and april 1992. egg types of strongyles, strongyloides, trichuris, skrjabinema, dicrocoelium and moniezia were encountered in 93%, 83%, 44%, 0.9%, 2.3% and 31% of the faecal samples respectively. however, only strongyle, strongyloides and trichuris eggs occurred in ...19968960229
rift valley fever in nigeria: infections in domestic animals.between 1986 and 1989, 2,255 sera collected from six domestic animal species in nigeria were tested for antibodies to rift valley fever (rvf) virus. in addition, a longitudinal study was carried out from july 1987 to december 1988, using ten sentinel flocks on four farms at ibadan and ile-ife, to determine the activity of rvf virus (rvfv). all samples were tested for haemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies and positive sera were further screened, using the plaque reduction neutralisation test. o ...19969025143
molecular epidemiology of human and animal tuberculosis in ibadan, southwestern nigeria.from 2005 to 2007, mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (mtc) strains were isolated from cattle, goats and pigs samples collected at the bodija abattoir and from human samples from tuberculosis patients and livestock traders at the akinyele cattle market in ibadan, southwestern nigeria. seventy four isolates obtained from humans (24) and livestock (50) were identified as mtc strains. thirty two isolates were spoligotyped. nineteen of these 32 isolates were identified as m. tuberculosis whilst 13 w ...201121458174
potentially zoonotic shiga toxin-producing escherichia coli serogroups in the faeces and meat of food-producing animals in ibadan, nigeria.shiga toxin-producing escherichia coli (stec) are major food-borne pathogens associated with gastroenteritis and sometimes fatal haemolytic uraemic syndrome complication. farm animals are asymptomatic carriers of stec and contaminated meat is an important vehicle for zoonotic transmission from animals to humans. this study investigated the presence, virulence traits and antimicrobial susceptibility of seven potentially human pathogenic stec serogroups (o157, o26, o91, o103, o111, o128 and o145) ...201020643488
