levels of igm antibodies against dengue virus in rio de janeiro, brazil.the appearance and persistence of igm antibodies were studied by mac-elisa in 926 confirmed cases of dengue virus type 1 infection. assays performed on acute and convalescent patient sera revealed that igm antibodies appeared during the early phase of disease (day 2) and persisted for three months after onset. mac-elisa proved to be a valuable early diagnosis test when compared with haemagglutination inhibition.19921297178
an outbreak of dengue virus at rio de janeiro--1986.dengue virus type 1 has been isolated in aedes albopictus cell strain, from sera of patients living in the nova iguaçu county, by rio de janeiro. the clinical picture was characterized by fever, headache, retrobulbar pain, backache, pains in the muscles and the joints and prostration. studies in paired sera confirmed the presence of recent infection by dengue virus type 1. the outbreak reached adjacent areas, including rio de janeiro city (may, 1986).19863587006
dengue epidemic in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil: virological and epidemiological aspects.laboratory studies were carried out on 3178 patients with signs and symptoms suggestive of dengue infection from april 1986 to december 1987 in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil. the epidemic had two peaks following the first virus isolation and affected the inhabitants of 17 counties. both sex and all age groups were affected. dengue virus type 1 was isolated from 1039 sera and the number of confirmed cases was increased to 1874 (59%) by mac-elisa. isolation rate confirmed cases reached 80% i ...19938284599
dengue epidemic in the stage of rio de janeiro, brazil, 1990-1: co-circulation of dengue 1 and dengue 2 serotypes.during 1990 and 1991, dengue fever was detected in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil. it occurred in two epidemic waves; one, from january to august 1990, caused predominantly by dengue virus type 1 (den-1) the other from october 1990 to may 1991 caused by type 2 virus (den-2). dengue was confirmed by virus isolation and/or igm capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (mac-elisa) in 2109/5964 (35.4%) of the cases. den-2 virus was isolated from 180 patients. hai tests indicated that of these p ...19938348928
secondary dengue infection in schoolchildren in a dengue endemic area in the state of rio de janeiro, brazil.a seroepidemiologic survey was carried out in schoolchildren from public schools of the niterói municipality, state of rio de janeiro, brazil, after a period of sequential epidemics by dengue virus type 1 and 2 (den-1 and den-2). 450 blood samples were obtained by fingertip puncture and collected on filter paper discs. the hemagglutination inhibition (hai) test was carried out using den-1 and den-2 antigens. hai titres were demonstrated in 66% (297/450) of the sera and the geometric means of the ...19958731265
dengue infection in paracambi, state of rio de janeiro, 1990-1995.a seroepidemiological survey was carried out during 1994 in the municipality of paracambi, state of rio de janeiro. haemagglutination inhibition test positivity was detected in 145 out of 370 (39.2%) schoolchildren. the frequency of positive test by sex was 53.8% (78/145) female and 46.2% (67/145) male. distribution by age showed the increasing of antibody positivity in older children. strains of dengue virus type 1 and dengue virus type 2 were isolated before (1990) showing the co-circulation o ...19979322424
phylogenetic analysis of dengue virus 1 isolated from south minas gerais, brazil.dengue is a major worldwide public health problem, especially in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. primary infection with a single dengue virus serotype causes a mild, self-limiting febrile illness called dengue fever. however, a subset of patients who experience secondary infection with a different serotype can progress to a more severe form of the disease, called dengue hemorrhagic fever. the four dengue virus serotypes (1-4) are antigenically and genetically distinct and each ...201626887252
phylodynamics of denv-1 reveals the spatiotemporal co-circulation of two distinct lineages in 2013 and multiple introductions of dengue virus in goiás, brazil.dengue virus type 1 (denv-1) was the first serotype introduced in brazil, during in the 1980s. since then, this virus has spread in the brazilian territory, causing several outbreaks. in 2013 the highest number of dengue cases was notified, when compared to the previous years in brazil, and the state of goiás reported over 160 thousand cases. in this study, we aimed to present the phylodynamics of denv-1 isolates from the state of goiás, brazil, during 2013 outbreak, based on the envelope gene ( ...201627223633
insights of the genetic diversity of denv-1 detected in brazil in 25 years: analysis of the envelope domain iii allows lineages characterization.dengue virus type 1 (denv-1) was first isolated in brazil in 1986 in the state of rio de janeiro (rj) and during 25years, this serotype emerged and re-emerged causing explosive epidemics in the country. here, we aimed to present the phylogeny and molecular characterization based on the envelope gene (e) of denv-1 (n=48) isolated during epidemics occurred from 1986 to 2011. six full coding region genomes of denv-1 were fully sequenced and possible genomic recombination events were analyzed. the r ...201526160541
