corynebacterium pyogenes mastitis outbreak in inbred heifers in a california dairy.an outbreak of corynebacterium pyogenes mastitis ("summer mastitis") was observed in a group of 96 heifers. the outbreak affected 8 animals, of which 7 were too young for breeding. the disease incidence was highest in calves 2 to 4 months old. cases were observed over an initial estimated 14 day period with a further case being detected 14 days subsequently. corynebacterium pyogenes mastitis has not been reported in calves this age. factors postulated to influence the outbreak include the presen ...19873328670
bacteria isolated from lymph nodes of california slaughter swine.lymph nodes from 280 slaughter swine from 9 california ranches were examined for the presence of aerobic microflora. genera of interest which were isolated (and percentage of animals from which they were isolated) included salmonella (4.3%), beta-hemolytic streptococci (8.2%), mycobacterium avium-complex (6.4%), corynebacterium pyogenes (0.4%), and aeromonas hydrophila (5.7%). patterns of bacterial isolations from swine herds may be of assistance in predicting herd health problems.19846383150
fatal pneumonia of bighorn sheep following association with domestic sheep.during 1979-1980 acute fibrinopurulent bronchopneumonia resulted in high mortality or total loss of herds of bighorn sheep (ovis canadensis) in california and washington. contact with domestic sheep occurred shortly before the onset of disease in each case. circumstantial evidence indicated that the apparently healthy domestic sheep transmitted pathogenic bacteria to the bighorns, resulting in mortality. pasteurella multocida and corynebacterium pyogenes were isolated from pulmonary tissue of de ...19827047767
