differences in saliva composition among three brazilian populations of panstrongylus megistus (hemiptera, reduviidae).comparisons of electrophoretic profiles of triatomines (panstrongylus megistus) from the brazilian states of bahia (ba), minas gerais (mg) and santa catarina (sc) revealed differences in the composition of the saliva between the three populations. a phenogram constructed on the basis of the most representative electrophoretic banding patterns allowed the specimens tested to be divided into two groups. the ba and sc populations could be completely separated while some individuals from mg could be ...19999924964
[colonization by panstrongylus megistus (hemiptera, reduviidae, triatominae) inside homes in são josé do cerrito, sc: first report].in response to complaints of the presence of triatomines in a fishing hut on the banks of the caveiras river, in the municipality of são josé do cerrito, state of santa catarina, an investigation was conducted in this hut and in other ecotopes neighboring the initial finding. fifteen specimens of panstrongylus megistus were found and none of them were infected. the locality of this ecotope is visited occasionally by capybaras, opossums, armadillos and rats.200818853021
[colonization of artificial ecotopes by panstrongylus megistus in santa catarina island, florianópolis, santa catarina, brazil].the aim of this work was to verify the colonization of panstrongylus megistus on artificial ecotopes in florianópolis, in the santa catarina island, south brazil. for this purpose 443 houses of the lagoa district and 779 house annexes (524 chicken-houses, 46 corrals and 209 storage-houses) in 9 different places were examined from 1985 to 1992. these ecotopes, which include ceilings and basements, were checked after application of dislodging liquid (pirisa 5%). colonization by p. megistus was ver ...19947997773
biogeography of brazilian populations of panstrongylus megistus (hemiptera, reduviidae, triatominae) based on molecular marker and paleo-vegetational data.in epidemiological terms, panstrongylus megistus is one of the most important species of triatomine bug in brazil. samples from 11 localities were studied using the random amplification of polymorphic dna (rapd) technique, which was able to differentiate the study populations clearly. biogeographical data indicate that these populations could already have arisen 18,000 years ago (c(14)), it being possible to differentiate insects from the brazilian states of santa catarina (sc) in the south, cea ...200617055993
interpopulation variability among panstrongylus megistus (hemiptera: reduviidae) from brazil.comparisons were made among panstrongylus megistus (burmeister) from three areas of brazil (bahia, minas gerais, and santa catarina), where populations differ with regard to their degree of association with human dwellings. the following characters were studied: morphology of the eggs and the male genitalia; morphometry of the head and thorax; isoenzyme profile; enzymatic activity of the alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (alpha-gpdh); and cytogenetics. in general, differences were observed in ...200314680104
trypanosoma cruzi infection in didelphis marsupialis in santa catarina and arvoredo islands, southern brazil.between 1984 and 1993 the prevalence of the trypanosoma cruzi infection in opossums (didelphis marsupialis) was studied in santa catarina and arvoredo islands, state of santa catarina, brazil. the association of the triatomine bug panstrongylus megistus with opossums nests and the infection rate of these triatomines by t. cruzi was also studied. thirteen different locations were studied in santa catarina island (sci), in which 137 d. marsupialis were collected. sixty two opossums were collected ...200011080763
