[antibodies to the human t-cell leukemia virus in the blood serum of the inhabitants of sakhalin and iuzhno-kuril'sk].two immunological tests were used in testing of 808 blood serum samples from inhabitants of sakhalin and of the city of yuzhno-kurilsk for antibodies against htlv-1 etiologically associated with human t-cell leukemia. antibodies to htlv-1 were detected in 4.2% of nivkhs, 1.2% of oroks and 1.5% of russians. the highest level of virus-carriers reaching 6.0% was detected in nivkhs from the middle part of sakhalin. the antibodies were detected more often in persons of old age and in women.19882899022
hla class i and class ii of the nivkhi, an indigenous population carrying htlv-i in sakhalin, far eastern russia.the nivkhi are a native people isolated in the nogliki region of sakhalin, far east russia, where our group recently recognized human t-cell lymphoma virus type i (htlv-i) infection. in order to trace the nivkhi's ethnic background and the htlv-i carriers, we investigated hla class i and ii allele types of 53 nivkhi (including four htlv-i carriers). major hla class i alleles of the nivkhi were a*24, a*02, b*40, b*48, b*27, b*35 with allele frequencies similar to the orochon, a native people isol ...19989864034
htlv-i infection among nivkhi people in sakhalin: comparative serologic and phylogenetic analyses for 9 years. 200010897043
[screening of sera from the adult populations of some ussr regions for antibodies to the human t-cell leukemia virus type i (htlv-i)].the results of serologic survey of 4118 residents of the ussr far east from 16 to 82 years of age and 1037 blood donors for antibody to htlv-i by the method of passive agglutination of gelatin particles coated with viral proteins are summarized. the portion of htlv-1 seropositive subjects in the khabarovsk territory was 1.79% (25 out of 1391), in the maritime territory 2.2% (18 out of 801), in the sakhalin island 1.6% (26 out of 1557), and in kamchatka 1.6% (6 out of 369). a discrete area of a h ...19902256315
phylogenetic relationships of htlv-i/stlv-i in the world.in an effort to delineate the origin and evolution of htlv-i/stlv-i, we have been conducting phylogenetic analyses on ltr sequences of this virus group. htlv-i isolates newly analyzed in the present study were from iran, south africa, cameroon, sakhalin and brazil where little is known concerning the genetic features of htlv-i. in addition, stlv-i isolates were obtained from non-human primates in africa and asia including an isolate from orangutans in indonesia. proviral ltr sequences were ampli ...19979209294
