epidemic polyarthritis and ross river virus disease.ross river virus is a mosquito-transmitted alphavirus indigenous to australia, papua new guinea and nearby islands, which recently appeared in other western and central south pacific islands. human infection can be manifest by varied constitutional disturbances, rash and rheumatic symptoms, known in australia as epidemic polyarthritis and broadly similar to certain alphavirus diseases in other regions. although usually short-lived, the rash can persist for 5 months. rheumatic effects involve syn ...19863026719
an epidemic of ross river virus infection in fiji, 1979.an explosive epidemic of polyarthritis caused by ross river virus occurred in the fijian islands from april to june 1979. serological results suggest there was a low level of alphavirus activity throughout fiji before april 1979, but that following the epidemic up to 90% of the residents of some communities had antibody to ross river virus. the clinical and laboratory findings in patients from the fijian outbreak were similar to those seen in australian cases.19817283004
epidemic polyarthritis acquired in fiji.four cases of epidemic polyarthritis which was acquired in fiji between april and july of 1979 are described. the manifestations of the illness were similar to those of the disease in australia. knowledge of the geographic distribution of this disease can be valuable in diagnosis, but it is likely that its range is not yet fully known.19807393059
the urban mosquitoes of suva, fiji: seasonal incidence and evaluation of environmental sanitation and ulv spraying for their control.larval surveys and oviposition traps were used to monitor urban mosquito populations in two adjacent transects in suva, fiji between may 1978 and august 1979. populations of aedes aegypti and ae. pseudoscutellaris fluctuated seasonally with changes in rainfall, the latter species being most prevalent throughout the year. populations of these two species were highest between december and july and lowest between august and october. larval populations of culex quinquefasciatus did not show a season ...19807411679

ross river virus disease reemergence, fiji, 2003-2004.we report 2 clinically characteristic and serologically positive cases of ross river virus infection in canadian tourists who visited fiji in late 2003 and early 2004. this report suggests that ross river virus is once again circulating in fiji, where it apparently disappeared after causing an epidemic in 1979 to 1980.200515829203
retrospective seroepidemiological study of chikungunya infection in south asia, southeast asia and the pacific region.chikungunya virus (chikv) and ross river virus (rrv) of the genus alphavirus, family togaviridae are mainly transmitted by aedes mosquitoes and the symptoms they cause in patients are similar to dengue. a chikungunya (chik) outbreak re-emerged in several asian countries during 2005-2006. this study aimed to clarify the prevalence of chikv infection in suspected dengue patients in six countries in south asia and southeast asia. seven hundred forty-eight serum samples were from dengue-suspected pa ...201627018566
