prevalence and diagnosis of legionella pneumonia: a 3-year prospective study with emphasis on application of urinary antigen detection.during a 3-year period the frequency of legionellosis in hospitalized patients with community-acquired and nosocomial pneumonias was 3.4% (23/684 cases) and 5.9% (33/559), respectively. of the diagnostic tests evaluated, detection of legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen in urine had the highest sensitivity, with 86% of culture-proven cases being positive. sensitivities of serologic tests and examination of respiratory secretions (culture and direct immunofluorescence) were 36% and 26%, res ...19902230263
direct demonstration and isolation of legionella pneumophila (serogroup 1) from bathroom water specimens in a hotel.legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 organisms were isolated from one sample of water originating from a shower head in a bathroom of a hotel. seven of the 16 swab specimens collected from 2 different sites of the hotel bathrooms revealed fluorescing bacteria in direct fluorescent antibody test. the significance of present observations in relation to the cluster of l. pneumophila infections diagnosed recently in berlin among a group of visitors who stayed in this hotel has been discussed.19836367308
occurrence and distribution of sequence types among legionella pneumophila strains isolated from patients in germany: common features and differences to other regions of the world.a total of 105 unrelated clinical isolates of legionella pneumophila were randomly selected from the german national legionella strain collection and typed by monoclonal antibody (mab) subgrouping and a seven-gene locus sequence-based typing (sbt) scheme. according to the case definitions of the european working group for legionella infections, 19 of the isolates tested were travel-associated, 38 were community-acquired and 48 were of nosocomial origin. eighty-four of these strains belonged to s ...200817909867
