a serological survey of encephalomyocarditis virus infection in pigs in japan.a total of 1502 pig sera collected between 1990 and 1991 at 65 farms in 22 prefectures were subjected to neutralization test to encephalomyocarditis (emc) virus. of them, three hundred eighty seven pigs (25.8%) from the 55 farms (84.6%) had antibody against emc virus. the positive rates were rather high in ehime (53.1%), tottori (49.1%), shimane (44.4%) and nagasaki (38.7%). the positive rate and geometric mean titer of antibody tended to increase with the age. these serological results suggest ...19938384893

epidemiology, histopathology, and muscle distribution of trichinella t9 in feral raccoons (procyon lotor) and wildlife of japan.the prevalences of trichinella t9 in trapped raccoons (procyon lotor) and several other potential mammalian reservoirs in hokkaido, wakayama, and nagasaki prefectures were investigated. muscle samples were collected from 2003 to 2006 from 1,080 raccoons, 113 raccoon dogs including 2 species (nyctereutes procyonoides albus and n. p. viverrinus), 41 wild boars (sus scrofa leucomystax), 14 martens (martes melampus), 10 badgers (meles meles), 5 siberian weasels (martes sibirica coreana), 7 mink (mus ...200717310398
a genetic method to distinguish crossbred inobuta from japanese wild boars.to distinguish pig-wild boar crossbred inobuta from japanese wild boar populations, a genetic method by using mitochondrial dna (mtdna) haplotypes and the nuclear glucosephosphate isomerase-processed pseudogene (gpip) was developed. sixteen mtdna haplotypes from 152 wild boars from kyushu, shikoku and honshu islands of japan were distinct from those from asian and european domestic pigs. five alleles of gpip were classified into two groups: 1). alleles gpip*1, gpip*3 and gpip*3a from japanese wi ...200212499675
large outbreak of swine influenza in southern japan caused by reassortant (h1n2) influenza viruses: its epizootic background and characterization of the causative viruses.in the winter of 1989 and the spring of 1990, there were large outbreaks of respiratory disease in two swine herds in nagasaki prefecture, southern japan. serological surveillance indicated that the majority of swine possessed antibodies to swine influenza virus h1 haemagglutinin and neuraminidase of early h3n2 influenza virus strains. eight viruses were isolated from swine that showed typical clinical symptoms of influenza. the haemagglutinin and neuraminidase of these isolates were closely rel ...19968760422
