parelaphostrongylus andersoni (nematoda: protostrongylidae) in white-tailed deer from michigan.dorsal-spined larvae in fecal samples from free-ranging white-tailed deer (odocoileus virginianus) in michigan and pennsylvania were used as a source of larvae to infect a hand-raised white-tailed deer fawn. the fawn receive 200 third-stage larvae and passed dorsal-spined larvae in feces 66 days later. muscleworm (parelaphostrongylus andersoni), and meningeal worm (parelaphostrongylus tenuis) were recovered at necropsy. two white-tailed deer and seven wapiti (cervus elaphus) exposed to larvae of ...19902250330

microsatellite variation in the reintroduced pennsylvania elk herd.relocation programs have restored elk (cervus elaphus) to portions of its vast historical range. we examine the consequences of these relocation programs by assessing variation at 10 microsatellite loci in three elk herds, a source herd (yellowstone national park), a large herd reintroduced from yellowstone (custer state park) and a bottlenecked herd reintroduced from both yellowstone and custer (the pennsylvania herd). observed single locus heterozygosities ranged from 0.000 to 0.739. multi-loc ...200212144652

mortality in pennsylvania captive elk (cervus elaphus): 1998-2006.the necropsy records of 65 elk ranging from 1 day to 13(1/2) years of age were reviewed to determine the primary cause of death of each animal. the animal carcasses were submitted from 22 separate pennsylvania elk farms over an approximately 8-year period. the most common causes of mortality in animals in which the cause of death was determined were gastrointestinal parasitism (21 cases), pneumonia (7 cases), enterocolitis (5 cases), malnutrition (5 cases), and rumenitis/acidosis (5 cases). the ...200717459871
