canadian experience with yersinia enterocolitica (1966--1977).data pertaining to 1,219 cultures of yersinia enterocolitica isolated in canada are summarized. of the 977 cultures isolated from humans, y. enterocolitica serotype 0:3, biotype 4, phage type ixb was the most predominant type in ontario, quebec and the four eastern provinces. in the western provinces the predominant strains were indol-positive, serotypes 0:8; 5,27 and 4,32. most of the 242 cultures of nonhuman origin, except those isolated from swine and a few isolated from wild animals, were in ...1979535372
yersinia enterocolitica infection in children: 4 years experience in the montreal urban community.from 1973 to 1976, a total of 146 strains of yersinia enterocolitica was isolated from children at the ste. justine hospital and montreal children's hospital. all strains tested were of serotype 0:3, biotype 4. the majority (80%) of children from whom y. enterocolitica was isolated were under 5 years of age and in 74 of 93 cases reviewed diarrhea was the predominant symptom. case reports on 2 patients with unusual clinical features are also presented.1979535386
yersinia enterocolitica: serotypes and biotypes isolated from humans and the environment in quebec, canada.thirty-one strains of yersinia enterocolitica were isolated from food and surface water. during the period of january 1975 to june 1977, 157 strains from 143 human cases were also isolated. among the different serotypes from nonhuman sources, serotypes 6,30 and 4,32 were the most common. serotype 4,32 was present only in food and not in water. serotype 3 was isolated only from humans. among the different serotypes from human cases, 73.9% belonged to serotype 3. only serotype 3 was isolated from ...1978670388
survey on the incidence of yersinia enterocolitica infection in canada.data pertaining to 278 cultures of yersinia enterocolitica isolated in canada are summarized in this paper. of this amount, 256 were isolated from humans, whereas 22 were of nonhuman sources. the typing of these cultures is presented together with their geographical location. y. enterocolitica serotype o:3 biotype 4, phage type 9b, was practically the only serotype present in the province of quebec. this serotype o:3 was also predominant in ontario, followed by serotypes o:5,27 and o:6,30; other ...19744472776

yersinia enterocolitica gastroenteritis: a prospective study of clinical, bacteriologic, and epidemiologic features.a prospective study was performed to estimate the frequency of gastroenteritis due to yersinia enterocolitica in montreal children and their families. evidence of bacterial infection was correlated with clinical features and serologic responses. ye was isolated from the stools of 181 (index cases) of 6,364 children with gastroenteritis over a 15-month period; salmonella was isolated from 280 and shigella from 68. median ages were 24, 30, and 41 months, respectively. all but 18 ye isolates were b ...19807350311
epidemiological study of yersinia enterocolitica in swine herds in québec.the objectives of this study were the identification of the different contamination sources of yersinia enterocolitica, as well as the determination of the prevalence and the distribution of the different genotypes in swine herds. the owners of 20 farms, located in the richelieu-yamaska region, agreed to participate in the study. each farm was visited a minimum of 5 times between may and october 1997, and, at each visit, 20 environmental and 10 fecal samples were collected. yersinia enterocoliti ...200010816831
microbiological quality of blue mussels (mytilus edulis) in nunavik, quebec: a pilot study.this pilot study was aimed at documenting the presence of fecal indicators and enteric pathogens in blue mussels (mytilus edulis) from 6 communities in nunavik, quebec. one to four 2 kg samples of mussels were collected at low tide in each community. samples were investigated by enumeration methods for the fecal indicators enterococci, escherichia coli, f-specific coliphages, clostridium perfringens, and by molecular identification for the pathogens norovirus, salmonella spp., campylobacter jeju ...201021076488
