clinical and microbiologic characteristics of pediococci.over a 43-month period, 23 separate isolates of nonenterococcal alpha- and nonhemolytic streptococci were reported by our clinical microbiology laboratory to be resistant to vancomycin. this constituted 0.32% of nonenterococcal alpha- and nonhemolytic streptococci reported and 4.4% of such streptococci upon which susceptibility testing was performed. of 13 isolates which were available for further study, all were highly resistant to vancomycin (mic greater than or equal to 1,024 micrograms/ml), ...19902380362
screening of lactic acid bacteria from indonesia reveals glucansucrase and fructansucrase genes in two different weissella confusa strains from soya.homopolysaccharide (glucan and fructan) synthesis from sucrose by sucrase enzymes in lactic acid bacteria (lab) has been well studied in the genera leuconostoc, streptococcus and lactobacillus. this study aimed to identify and characterize genes encoding glucansucrase/glucosyltransferase (gtf) and fructansucrases/fructosyltransferase (ftf) enzymes from genomic dna of 'rare' indonesian exopolysaccharide-producing lab. from a total of 63 exopolysaccharide-producing lab isolates obtained from foods ...200919758326
novel pcr-based identification of weissella confusa using an aflp-derived marker.an extensive use of weissella (w.) confusa is currently being made for the production of a variety of fermented foods and beverages although some strains of this species have emerged as opportunistic pathogens for humans and animals. nevertheless, no rapid methods are available for the reliable identification of w. confusa. we developed a novel pcr using aflp (amplified fragment length polymorphism)-derived primers for the rapid and unequivocal identification of w. confusa. fluorescent aflp of 3 ...201121296447
effect of weissella confusa strain pl9001 on the adherence and growth of helicobacter pylori.viable and nonviable weissella confusa strain pl9001 inhibited the binding of helicobacter pylori to human gastric-cell line mkn-45 cells by more than 90%. spent culture supernatant of pl9001 rapidly decreased the viability of h. pylori, rupturing cell walls. the results suggest that pl9001 is a probiotic that can reduce the infectivity and persistence of h. pylori.200212200324
weissella confusa (basonym: lactobacillus confusus) bacteremia: a case report.infection with lactobacillus is rare, and only a handful of species have been identified as being clinically significant: lactobacillus casei, lactobacillus rhamnosus, and lactobacillus leichmannii. the literature contains one case report of bacteremia caused by weissella confusa (basonym: lactobacillus confusus), but the clinical significance of the infection was unclear. we describe a case of w. confusa bacteremia in a 46-year-old man with a history of abdominal aortic dissection and repair. t ...200111283096
