clostridium innocuum, sp. n., a sporeforming anaerobe isolated from human infections. 196213914326
comparative in vitro activities of ertapenem (mk-0826) against 469 less frequently identified anaerobes isolated from human infections.we studied the in vitro activity of ertapenem against 469 less frequently identified anaerobes from 11 genera and 52 species isolated from human infections. ertapenem was uniformly active against 460 of 469 (98%) strains at concentrations of < or = 4 microg/ml. only 4 of 14 clostridium difficile, 1 of 11 clostridium innocuum, and 4 of 6 lactobacillus sp. strains required ertapenem concentrations of > or = 8 microg/ml for inhibition.200211897608
development of a selective and sensitive polymerase chain reaction assay for the detection of mycoplasma pirum.a new assay using the polymerase chain reaction to amplify a 173-nucleotide dna fragment within the 16s ribosomal rna gene of mycoplasma pirum has been developed. the assay selectively amplified dna from all strains of m. pirum tested with a high level of sensitivity, even in a context of human dna. dna from other mollicute species, including those closely related to m. pirum, from bacteria phylogenetically close to mollicutes (clostridium innocuum, c. ramosum and bacillus subtilis), from escher ...19938454198
bacterial formation of aldosterone metabolites.the experiments described in this paper demonstrate that most of the metabolic alterations of the aldosterone molecule, hitherto attributed to hepatic enzymes, equally well may be carried out by enzymes synthesized by anaerobic bacteria from the human gut. the steroid reductases synthesized by clostridium paraputrificum, clostridium j-1, and clostridium innocuum convert aldosterone to the 3 alpha, 5 beta tetrahydroaldosterone (tha), 3 beta, 5 alpha-tha, and 3 alpha, 5 alpha-tha, respectively. al ...19846513554
effect of moxalactam on human fecal microflora.five healthy male adults received 2 g of moxalactam every 12 h for 7 days. the alterations of fecal microflora were investigated before, during, and after treatment with moxalactam. on day 7 of treatment, the number of total bacteria was decreased in all subjects. there was marked suppression of the obligate anaerobic bacteria and enterobacteria to undetectable levels, but the counts of streptococcus spp. and lactobacillus spp. increased. on day 7, two subjects had clostridium innocuum and clost ...19863729329
