molecular wipes: application to epidemic keratoconjuctivitis.epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (ekc) is a severe disease of the eye, caused by members of the adenoviridae (ad) family, with symptoms such as keratitis, conjunctivitis, pain, edema, and reduced vision that may last for months or years. there are no vaccines or antiviral drugs available to prevent or treat ekc. it was found previously that ekc-causing ads use sialic acid as a cellular receptor and demonstrated that soluble, sialic acid-containing molecules can prevent infection. in this study, mul ...201121838327
prime-boost vaccination with heterologous live vectors encoding siv gag and multimeric hiv-1 gp160 protein: efficacy against repeated mucosal r5 clade c shiv challenges.we sought to induce primate immunodeficiency virus-specific cellular and neutralizing antibody (nab) responses in rhesus macaques (rm) through a bimodal vaccine approach. rm were immunized intragastrically (i.g.) with the live-attenuated listeria monocytogenes (lm) vector lmdd-bdopsivgag encoding sivmac239 gag. siv gag-specific cellular responses were boosted by intranasal and intratracheal administration of replication-competent adenovirus (ad5hr-sivgag) encoding the same gag. to broaden antivi ...201121693155
adenovirus e1a directly targets the e2f/dp-1 complex.deregulation of the cell cycle is of paramount importance during adenovirus infection. adenovirus normally infects quiescent cells and must initiate the cell cycle in order to propagate itself. the prb family of proteins controls entry into the cell cycle by interacting with and repressing transcriptional activation by the e2f transcription factors. the viral e1a proteins indirectly activate e2f-dependent transcription and cell cycle entry, in part, by interacting with prb and family members to ...201121715488

a novel molecular therapy using bioengineered adenovirus for human gastrointestinal cancer.replication-selective tumor-specific viruses constitute a novel approach for treatment of neoplastic disease. these vectors are designed to induce virus-mediated lysis of tumor cells after selective viral propagation within the tumor. human telomerase is highly active in more than 85´¢á of primary cancers, regardless of their tissue origins, and its activity correlates closely with human telomerase reverse transcriptase (htert) expression. we constructed an attenuated adenovirus 5 vector (telome ...201121709712
detection of the human specific bacteroides genetic marker provides evidence of widespread sewage contamination of stormwater in the urban environment.human sewage contamination of surface waters is a major human health concern. we found urban stormwater systems that collect and convey runoff from impervious surfaces act as a conduit for sewage originating from breeches in sanitary sewer infrastructure. a total of 828 samples at 45 stormwater outfalls were collected over a four-year period and assessed by culture based methods, pcr, and quantitative pcr (qpcr) to test for traditional and alternative indicators of fecal pollution. all outfalls ...201121689838
phase ib study of gene-mediated cytotoxic immunotherapy adjuvant to up-front surgery and intensive timing radiation for malignant glioma.purpose despite aggressive therapies, median survival for malignant gliomas is less than 15 months. patients with unmethylated o(6)-methylguanine-dna methyltransferase (mgmt) fare worse, presumably because of temozolomide resistance. adv-tk, an adenoviral vector containing the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase gene, plus prodrug synergizes with surgery and chemoradiotherapy, kills tumor cells, has not shown mgmt dependency, and elicits an antitumor vaccine effect. patients and methods patien ...201121844505
the route of immunization with adenoviral vaccine influences the recruitment of cytotoxic t lymphocytes in the lung that provide potent protection from influenza a virus.virus-specific cytotoxic t lymphocytes (ctls) in the lung are considered to confer protection from respiratory viruses. several groups demonstrated that the route of priming was likely to have an implication for the trafficking of antigen-specific ctls. therefore, we investigated whether the route of immunization with adenoviral vaccine influenced the recruitment of virus-specific ctls in the lung that should provide potent protection from influenza a virus. mice were immunized with recombinant ...201121722671
enhanced control of pathogenic simian immunodeficiency virus sivmac239 replication in macaques immunized with an interleukin-12 plasmid and a dna prime-viral vector boost vaccine regimen.dna priming has previously been shown to elicit augmented immune responses when administered by electroporation (ep) or codelivered with a plasmid encoding interleukin-12 (pil-12). we hypothesized that the efficacy of a dna prime and recombinant adenovirus 5 boost vaccination regimen (dna/rad5) would be improved when incorporating these vaccination strategies into the dna priming phase, as determined by pathogenic simian immunodeficiency virus sivmac239 challenge outcome. the whole sivmac239 pro ...201121734035

inhibition of mlc phosphorylation restricts replication of influenza virus--a mechanism of action for anti-influenza agents.influenza a viruses are a severe threat worldwide, causing large epidemics that kill thousands every year. prevention of influenza infection is complicated by continuous viral antigenic changes. newer anti-influenza agents include mek/erk and protein kinase c inhibitors; however, the downstream effectors of these pathways have not been determined. in this study, we identified a common mechanism for the inhibitory effects of a significant group of anti-influenza agents. our studies showed that in ...201121731751
development of an adenovirus vector lacking the expression of virus-associated rnas.a major limitation of the use of adenovirus (ad) vectors is the innate immune response, which causes inflammatory cytokine production and tissue damages. to overcome this limitation, it is necessary to develop safer ad vectors that are less likely to induce innate immunity. the ad genome encodes two non-coding small rnas, virus-associated (va)-rna i and va-rna ii, which are transcribed by rna polymerase iii and promote ad replication. recently, we reported that va-rnas are produced in the cells ...201121703313
ck2 inhibitors increase the sensitivity of hsv-1 to interferon-+¦.herpes simplex virus type 1 (hsv-1) requires the activities of cellular kinases for efficient replication. the host kinase, ck2, has been shown or is predicted to modify several hsv-1 proteins and has been proposed to affect one or more steps in the viral life cycle. furthermore, potential cellular and viral substrates of ck2 are involved in antiviral pathways and viral counter-defenses, respectively, suggesting that ck2 regulates these processes. consequently, we tested whether pharmacological ...201121722672
human immunoglobulin g levels of viruses and associated glioma risk.few consistent etiological factors have been identified for primary brain tumors. inverse associations to asthma and low levels of varicella-zoster virus, immunoglobulin (ig) levels in prevalent cases have indicted a role for the immune system in the development of glioma. because samples from prevalent cases of glioma could be influenced by treatments such as steroids and chemotherapy, we investigated pre-diagnostic samples from three large scandinavian cohorts. to test the hypothesis that immu ...201121717196
oncolytic adenovirus expressing soluble tgf+¦ receptor ii-fc-mediated inhibition of established bone metastases: a safe and effective systemic therapeutic approach for breast cancer.in recent years, oncolytic adenoviruses have shown some promise as a novel class of antitumor agents. however, their utility in targeting bone metastases is relatively less studied. we have examined whether the systemic therapy of oncolytic adenoviruses expressing the soluble form of transforming growth factor-+¦ (tgf+¦) receptor ii fused with human immunoglobulin g1 can be developed for the treatment of established breast cancer bone metastases. mda-mb-231-luc2 human breast cancer cells were in ...201121712815
Treatment of chemotherapy resistant ovarian cancer with a MDR1 targeted oncolytic adenovirus.Multidrug resistance gene 1 (MDR1) mediated resistance to chemotherapeutic agents is a major obstacle for the therapy of various cancer types. The use of conditionally replicating adenoviruses (CRAds) is dependent on molecular differences between tumor cells and non tumor cells. Transcriptional targeting of CRAd replication is an effective way to control replication regulation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a MDR1 targeted fiber-modified CRAd against chemotherapy resistant ...201121741695
Adenovirus-Vectored Drug-Vaccine Duo as a Rapid-Response Tool for Conferring Seamless Protection against Influenza.Few other diseases exert such a huge toll of suffering as influenza. We report here that intranasal (i.n.) administration of E1/E3-defective (+öE1E3) adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) particles rapidly induced an anti-influenza state as a means of prophylactic therapy which persisted for several weeks in mice. By encoding an influenza virus (IFV) hemagglutinin (HA) HA1 domain, an Ad5-HA1 vector conferred rapid protection as a prophylactic drug followed by elicitation of sustained protective immunity a ...201121818346
calcium upregulation by percutaneous administration of gene therapy in cardiac disease (cupid): a phase 2 trial of intracoronary gene therapy of sarcoplasmic reticulum ca2+-atpase in patients with advanced heart failure.adeno-associated virus type 1/sarcoplasmic reticulum ca(2+)-atpase was assessed in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study in patients with advanced heart failure.201121709064
durable mucosal simian immunodeficiency virus-specific effector memory t lymphocyte responses elicited by recombinant adenovirus vectors in rhesus monkeys.the induction of potent and durable cellular immune responses in both peripheral and mucosal tissues may be important for the development of effective vaccines against human immunodeficiency virus type 1 and other pathogens. in particular, effector responses at mucosal surfaces may be critical to respond rapidly to incoming mucosal pathogens. here we report that intramuscular injection of nonreplicating recombinant adenovirus (rad) vectors into rhesus monkeys induced remarkably durable simian im ...201121917969
influence of wastewater treatment process and the population size on human virus profiles in wastewater.human adenovirus (adv and adv species f), enterovirus (ev) and norovirus (nov) concentrations entering wastewater treatment plants (wwtp) serving different-sized communities, and effectiveness of different treatment processes in reducing concentrations were established. data was combined to create a characteristic and unique descriptor of the individual viral composition and termed as the sample virus profile. virus profiles were generally independent of population size and treatment process (mo ...201121962483
Adenovirus gene transfer to amelogenesis imperfecta ameloblast-like cells. To explore gene therapy strategies for amelogenesis imperfecta (AI), a human ameloblast-like cell population was established from third molars of an AI-affected patient. These cells were characterized by expression of cytokeratin 14, major enamel proteins and alkaline phosphatase staining. Suboptimal transduction of the ameloblast-like cells by an adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector was consistent with lower levels of the coxsackie-and-adenovirus receptor (CAR) on those cells relative to CAR-positive ...201122003382
Ineffective CD8(+) T-cell immunity to adeno-associated virus can result in prolonged liver injury and fibrogenesis.Chronic viral hepatitis depends on the inability of the T-cell immune response to eradicate antigen. This results in a sustained immune response accompanied by tissue injury and fibrogenesis. We have created a mouse model that reproduces these effects, based on the response of CD8(+) T cells to hepatocellular antigen delivered by an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector. Ten thousand antigen-specific CD8(+) T cells undergo slow expansion in the liver and can precipitate a subacute inflammatory hep ...201121925469
Hypoxia-regulated retinal glial cell-specific promoter for potential gene therapy in disease.Retinal Müller cells span the retina and secrete several trophic factors and represent the functional link between blood vessels and neurons, making them attractive targets for gene therapy. Therefore, a hypoxia-regulated, retinal glial cell-specific vector was constructed and tested for its response to hypoxia.201121960554
improved vaccine protection against retrovirus infection after co-administration of adenoviral vectors encoding viral antigens and type i interferon subtypes.type i interferons (ifns) exhibit direct antiviral effects, but also distinct immunomodulatory properties. in this study, we analyzed type i ifn subtypes for their effect on prophylactic adenovirus-based anti-retroviral vaccination of mice against friend retrovirus (fv) or hiv.201121943056
Human platelets express CAR with localization at the sites of intercellular interaction.Adenovirus has a wide tissue tropism. The virus attaches to the surface of cells via the fiber protein knob binding to the Coxsackie and Adenovirus receptor known as CAR. Virus entry inside cells is facilitated by integrins aVß3 and aVß5. Mice platelets are shown to be the predominant Ad binding blood cell type and the virus is documented inside platelets. CAR was identified on human platelets in one study yet contradicted in another. The presence of CAR appears to be the most reasonable initial ...201121962080
impact of systemic or mucosal immunity to adenovirus on ad-based ebola virus vaccine efficacy in guinea pigs.approximately 35% of the north american population and an estimated 90% of the sub-saharan african population have antibodies against adenovirus serotype 5 (adhu5) that are capable of neutralizing adhu5-based vaccines. in mice, intranasal delivery of adhu5 expressing the zaire ebolavirus glycoprotein human adenovirus serotype 5 (ad) containing the genes for the zaire ebolavirus glycoprotein (zgp) under the expressional control of a cytomegalovirus immediate early promoter (cmv)) can bypass syste ...201121987739
Adenoviral gene expression and replication in human tumor explant models.Promising results have been reported from numerous studies with replication-selective oncolytic adenoviral mutants as novel treatments for a variety of cancers. Most of these studies were performed in cancer cell lines, dissociated tumor tissue, or animal models, and the predictive utility for efficacy and safety in the clinical setting is unclear. Indeed, the outcome of many clinical trials with viral mutants that demonstrated high efficacy preclinically has so far been disappointing, necessita ...201221948469
use of cre/loxp recombination to swap cell binding motifs on the adenoviral capsid protein ix.we used cre/loxp recombination to swap targeting ligands present on the adenoviral capsid protein ix (pix). a loxp-flanked sequence encoding poly-lysine (pk-binds heparan sulfate proteoglycans) was engineered onto the 3'-terminus of pix, and the resulting fusion protein allowed for routine virus propagation. growth of this virus on cre-expressing cells removed the pk coding sequence, generating virus that could only infect through alternative ligands, such as a tyrosine kinase receptor a (trka)- ...201121968200
Maintaining and loading neural stem cells for delivery of oncolytic adenovirus to brain tumors.Despite recent advancements in the treatment of cancer, the prognosis for patients with malignant brain tumors remains poor. The success of currently available therapies has been limited in part because of the disseminated nature of these tumors. Furthermore, most of these tumors, when in a high-grade form, are resistant to chemo- and radiotherapy. Taking the above considerations into account, effective treatment of these cancers not only requires the development of new means to target tumor bur ...201221948472
Characterization of compound missense mutation and deletion of carnitine palmitoyltransferase II in a patient with adenovirus-associated encephalopathy. In mammals, carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT) system is a pivotal component of energy metabolism through mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation. The majority of patients with fatal or handicapped influenza-associated encephalopathy exhibit thermolabile compound homo/heterozygous mutations of CPT II.201121921422
virus hazards from food, water and other contaminated environments.numerous viruses of human or animal origin can spread in the environment and infect people via water and food, mostly through ingestion and occasionally through skin contact. these viruses are released into the environment by various routes including water run-offs and aerosols. furthermore, zoonotic viruses may infect humans exposed to contaminated surface waters. foodstuffs of animal origin can be contaminated, and their consumption may cause human infection if the viruses are not inactivated ...201122091646
endothelial growth factor therapy improves preeclampsia-like manifestations in a murine model induced by overexpression of svegfr-1.this study examines the effects of vegf-121 therapy in an animal model of preeclampsia induced by overexpression of soluble vegf receptor 1 (svegfr-1). at day 8 of gestation, cd-1 mice were implanted with subcutaneous osmotic pumps containing either vegf-121 or vehicle and fitted with telemetric blood pressure (bp) catheters for continuous bp monitoring (days 8-18 of gestation). on day 9, the animals in the vegf-121 group were randomly allocated for injection with adenovirus carrying svegfr-1 or ...201121890691
kinesin-1-mediated capsid disassembly and disruption of the nuclear pore complex promote virus infection.many viruses deliver their genomes into the host cell nucleus for replication. however, the size restrictions of the nuclear pore complex (npc), which regulates the passage of proteins, nucleic acids, and solutes through the nuclear envelope, require virus capsid uncoating before viral dna can access the nucleus. we report a microtubule motor kinesin-1-mediated and npc-supported mechanism of adenovirus uncoating. the capsid binds to the npc filament protein nup214 and kinesin-1 light-chain klc1/ ...201121925109
occurrence of water-borne enteric viruses in two settlements based in eastern chad: analysis of hepatitis e virus, hepatitis a virus and human adenovirus in water sources.hepatitis e virus (hev) is a common cause of water-borne acute hepatitis in areas with poor sanitation. in 2004 an outbreak of hev infection affected around 2,000 people in eastern chad (dar sila). this paper describes the decrease in the incidence of acute jaundice syndrome (ajs) from 2004 until 2009 when a mean incidence of 0.48 cases/1,000 people/year was recorded in the region. outbreaks of ajs were identified in some of the camps in 2007 and 2008. moreover, water samples from drinking water ...201121976198
Construction of targeted and armed oncolytic adenoviruses.Oncolytic (replication-competent) adenoviruses (Ads) represent the most advanced platform for cancer gene therapy. These viral vectors ablate tumors by killing tumor cells in the process of virus replication. As progeny virions are released, they infect remaining cancer cells, generating a bystander effect. Ads engineered for increased cancer specificity produce less damage to normal tissues. First-generation oncolytic Ads have demonstrated acceptable levels of safety while the efficacy was obse ...201221948467
adenovirus.adenoviruses (adv) are dna viruses that typically cause mild infections involving the upper or lower respiratory tract, gastrointestinal (gi) tract, or conjunctiva. rare manifestations of adv infections include hemorrhagic cystitis, hepatitis, hemorrhagic colitis, pancreatitis, nephritis, or encephalitis. adenovirus infections are more common in young children, owing to lack of humoral immunity. epidemics of adv infections may occur in healthy children or adults in closed or crowded settings (pa ...201121858752
complete genome sequence of human adenovirus prototype 17.as one of the first five human adenoviruses (hadvs) to be sequenced, type 17 was important as a reference tool for comparative genomics of recently isolated hadv pathogens in species d. hadv-d17 was the first species d adenovirus to be sequenced and was deposited in genbank in 1999. these genome data were not of high quality, and a redetermination of the same stock virus provides corrected data; among the differences are a length of 35,139 bp versus 35,100 bp in the original, and 160 mismatches ...201121980031
a novel combination treatment of armed oncolytic adenovirus expressing il-12 and gm-csf with radiotherapy in murine hepatocarcinoma.in this study, a novel combination treatment of armed oncolytic adenovirus expressing interleukin 12 (il-12) and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (gm-csf) with radiation was investigated for antitumor and antimetastatic effect in a murine hepatic cancer (hca-i) model. tumor bearing syngeneic mice were treated with radiation, armed oncolytic virus ad-δe1bmt7 (db7) expressing both il-12 and gm-csf (armed db7), or a combination of both. the adenovirus was administered by intratumora ...201121952320
Duplex PCR assay for the detection of avian adeno virus and chicken anemia virus prevalent in Pakistan.Avian Adeno viruses and Chicken Anemia Viruses cause serious economic losses to the poultry industry of Pakistan each year. Timely and efficient diagnosis of the viruses is needed in order to practice prevention and control strategies. In the first part of this study, we investigated broilers, breeder and Layer stocks for morbidity and mortality rates due to AAV and CAV infections and any co-infections by examining signs and symptoms typical of their infestation or post mortem examination. immunoprotectivity of hla-a2 ctl peptides derived from respiratory syncytial virus fusion protein in hla-a2 transgenic mouse.identification of hla-restricted cd8+ t cell epitopes is important to study rsv-induced immunity and illness. we algorithmically analyzed the sequence of the fusion protein (f) of respiratory syncytial virus (rsv) and generated synthetic peptides that can potentially bind to hla-a*0201. four out of the twenty-five 9-mer peptides tested: peptides 3 (f33-41), 13 (f214-222), 14 (f273-281), and 23 (f559-567), were found to bind to hla-a*0201 with moderate to high affinity and were capable of inducin ...201121980478
Targeting brain tumor stem cells with oncolytic adenoviruses. In 2004, brain tumor stem cells (BTSCs) were isolated from surgical human malignant gliomas. This cancer cell population has been identified as the root for tumor initiation and resistance to therapies. Thus, it is imperative to develop new therapies that can eradicate this subpopulation to improve the prognosis of patients with brain tumors. Our group previously reported the antiglioma effect of the tumor-selective oncolytic adenovirus Delta-24-RGD that is now being tested in a phase I clinical ...201221948473
Combining Liver- and Blood-Stage Malaria Viral-Vectored Vaccines: Investigating Mechanisms of CD8+ T Cell Interference.Replication-deficient adenovirus and modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) vectors expressing single pre-erythrocytic or blood-stage Plasmodium falciparum Ags have entered clinical testing using a heterologous prime-boost immunization approach. In this study, we investigated the utility of the same immunization regimen when combining viral vectored vaccines expressing the 42-kDa C terminus of the blood-stage Ag merozoite surface protein 1 and the pre-erythrocytic Ag circumsporozoite protein in th ...201121876036

rapid and efficient clearance of blood-borne virus by liver sinusoidal endothelium.the liver removes quickly the great bulk of virus circulating in blood, leaving only a small fraction to infect the host, in a manner characteristic of each virus. the scavenger cells of the liver sinusoids are implicated, but the mechanism is entirely unknown. here we show, borrowing a mouse model of adenovirus clearance, that nearly all infused adenovirus is cleared by the liver sinusoidal endothelial cell (lsec). using refined immunofluorescence microscopy techniques for distinguishing macrop ...201121980295
CAR modulates E-cadherin dynamics in the presence of adenovirus type 5.Adenovirus (Ad) serotype 5 (Ad5) fiber competitively binds to the coxsackievirus and Ad receptor (CAR) to attach Ad5 to target cells and also disrupts cell junctions and facilitates virus escape at a late stage in Ad5 infection. Here we demonstrate that paracellular permeability in MCF7 and CAR overexpressing MCF7 (FLCARMCF7) cells is increased within minutes following the addition of Ad5 to cells. This is brought about, at least in part, by altering the molecular dynamics of E-cadherin, a key c ...201121850251
sequence typing of adenovirus from samples from hematological stem cell transplant recipients.adenovirus infections are usually mild or even asymptomatic, but infections with the virus are being recognized increasingly as a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the immunocompromised, particularly hematological stem cell transplant patients where infections can be life threatening and mortality may reach 60%. typing by sequencing the hvr7 region of the hexon was established and validated using 60 isolates of different serotypes from the six of the seven species which had been typed pr ...201121915870
Sustained reduction of vein graft neointima formation by ex vivo TIMP-3 gene therapy.Coronary artery vein graft failure, resulting from thrombosis, intimal thickening, and atherosclerosis, is a significant clinical problem, with approximately 50% of vein grafts failing within 10 years. Intimal thickening is caused by migration of vascular smooth muscle cells from the media to the intima, where they proliferate. Interventions using gene transfer to inhibit vascular smooth muscle cells proliferation and migration are attractive because ex vivo access to the graft is possible. The ...201121911803
syrian hamster tumor model to study oncolytic ad5-based vectors.oncolytic (replicating) adenovirus (ad) vectors are emerging as a promising form of a cancer therapy agent. there has been a need for an appropriate animal model to study oncolytic ad since human ad -replication is usually species specific. we have shown that syrian (golden) hamsters are an appropriate animal model to study human ad5-based vectors. syrian hamsters are immunocompetent, and they allow human ad5 replication in normal tissues as well as in syrian hamster cancer cells. the developmen ...201221948468
Antibody response and virus shedding of chickens inoculated with left end deleted fowl adenovirus 9-based recombinant viruses. The nonpathogenic fowl adenoviruses (FAdVs) are suitable recombinant virus vectors. Two different replication-competent FAdV-9-based recombinant viruses carrying the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) gene within a nonessential DNA sequence at the left end genomic region were tested in chickens to study the antibody response by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to both the foreign proteins, EGFP and FAdV-9, and virus shedding through the feces. All inoculations were done intramuscularly: ...201122017044
dna damage response signaling triggers nuclear localization of the chicken anemia virus protein apoptin.the chicken anemia virus (cav) protein apoptin is a small, 13.6-kda protein that has the intriguing activity of inducing g(2)/m arrest and apoptosis specifically in cancer cells by a mechanism that is independent of p53. the activity of apoptin is regulated at the level of localization. whereas apoptin is cytoplasmic in primary cells and does not affect cell growth, in transformed cells it localizes to the nucleus, where it induces apoptosis. the properties of cancer cells that are responsible f ...201121937663
Imaging luciferase-expressing viruses.Optical imaging of luciferage gene expression has become a powerful tool to track cells and viruses in vivo in small animal models. Luciferase imaging has been used to study the location of infection by replication-defective and replication-competent viruses and to track changes in the distribution of viruses in mouse models. This approach has also been used in oncolytic studies as a noninvasive means to monitor the growth and killing of tumor cells modified with luciferase genes. In this chapte ...201221948470
Synthesis and in vitro study of antiviral and virucidal activity of novel 2-[(4-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)sulfanyl]acetamide derivatives.2-[(4-Methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)sulfanyl]acetamide derivatives were synthesized and their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. Cytotoxicity of the compounds towards HEK-293 and GMK cells was evaluated. Moreover, the antiviral and virucidal activities of these compounds against human adenovirus type 5 and ECHO-9 virus were assessed. Some of the newly synthesized derivatives have the potential to reduce the viral replication of both tested viruses.201121950156
