a 10-year observational study of streptococcus dysgalactiae bacteraemia in adults: frequent occurrence among female intravenous drug users.beta-haemolytic streptococci of groups c and g have become increasingly recognized as causes of invasive human infections. we reviewed clinical and molecular characteristics of streptococcus dysgalactiae isolates that caused bacteraemia in adults from 2006 to 2015. among 67 episodes, skin and soft-tissue infections (43%) and emm types stg62647.0 (26%) were the most frequent clinical manifestation and emm type, respectively. nineteen (28%) episodes occurred in intravenous drug users (75% women). ...201728750420
multifocal septic arthritis, gluteal abscess and spondylodiscitis by streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis after an intramuscular injection.we present the case of a 63-year-old man, admitted for hand cellulitis and acute kidney injury. a streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp equisimilis (sdse) was isolated in blood cultures and despite directed intravenous antibiotherapy, the patient evolved unfavourably, with dorsolumbar spondylodiscitis, multifocal septic arthritis and abscesses. ct also showed densification of the gluteal muscles, multiple air bubbles in the psoas, paraspinal muscles and spinal canal that were associated with an intra ...201728724597
highly prevalent emmstg840.0 and emmstc839.0 types of erythromycin non-susceptible group g streptococcus isolated from bacteremia in southern taiwan.group g streptococcus (ggs) infections in human have increased. treatment relied on antibiotic therapy, including erythromycin. however, information regarding the dominant strains and erythromycin susceptibility in ggs bacteremia is limited.201728711431
streptococcal toxic-shock syndrome due to streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis in breast cancer-related lymphedema: a case report.breast cancer-related lymphedema often causes cellulitis and is one of the most common complications after breast cancer surgery. streptococci are the major pathogens underlying such cellulitis. among the streptococci, the importance of the lancefield groups c and g is underappreciated; most cases involve streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis. despite having a relatively weak toxicity compared with group a streptococci, streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis is associated ...201728705211
probing the potential of cnab-type domains for the design of tag/catcher systems.building proteins into larger, post-translational assemblies in a defined and stable way is still a challenging task. a promising approach relies on so-called tag/catcher systems that are fused to the proteins of interest and allow a durable linkage via covalent intermolecular bonds. tags and catchers are generated by splitting protein domains that contain intramolecular isopeptide or ester bonds that form autocatalytically under physiological conditions. there are already numerous biotechnologi ...201728654665
clonal clusters and virulence factors of group c and g streptococcus causing severe infections, manitoba, canada, 2012-2014.the incidence of group c and g streptococcus (gcgs) bacteremia, which is associated with severe disease and death, is increasing. we characterized clinical features, outcomes, and genetic determinants of gcgs bacteremia for 89 patients in winnipeg, manitoba, canada, who had gcgs bacteremia during 2012-2014. of the 89 patients, 51% had bacteremia from skin and soft tissue, 70% had severe disease features, and 20% died. whole-genome sequencing analysis was performed on isolates derived from 89 blo ...201728628457
identification and expression analysis of two pro-inflammatory cytokines, tnf-α and il-8, in cobia (rachycentron canadum l.) in response to streptococcus dysgalactiae infection.tumor necrosis factor-alpha (tnf-α) and interleukin-8 (il-8/cxcl8) play pivotal roles in mediating inflammatory responses to invading pathogens. in this study, we identified and analyzed expressions of cobia tnf-α and il-8 during streptococcus dysgalactiae infection. the cloned cdna transcript of cobia tnf-α comprised of 1281 base pairs (bp), with a 774 bp open reading frame (orf) encoding 257 amino acids. the deduced amino acid sequence of cobia tnf-α showed a close relationship (84% similarity ...201728600195
whole-genome sequence analysis of antimicrobial resistance genes in streptococcus uberis and streptococcus dysgalactiae isolates from canadian dairy herds.the objectives of this study are to determine the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance (amr) genes using whole-genome sequence (wgs) of streptococcus uberis (s. uberis) and streptococcus dysgalactiae (s. dysgalactiae) isolates, recovered from dairy cows in the canadian maritime provinces. a secondary objective included the exploration of the association between phenotypic amr and the genomic characteristics (genome size, guanine-cytosine content, and occurrence of unique gene sequences). initi ...201728589129
acute bacterial meningitis and systemic abscesses due to streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis infection.disseminated abscesses due to group g β-hemolytic streptococcus dysgalactiae were observed in a 57-year-old cirrhotic patient with the skin being the putative way of entry for the pathogen. s. dysgalactiae is a rare agent in human infections responsible for acute pyogenic meningitis. the mortality rate associated with s. dysgalactiae bacteraemia and meningitis may be as high as 50%, particularly in the presence of endocarditis or brain abscesses. in our patient, main sites of infections were men ...201728512590
septic arthritis due to streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis in a healthy school child. 201728505017
draft genome sequence of streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis strain c161l1 isolated in vellore, india.streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis belongs to the β-hemolytic group c and g pyogenic group of streptococci. here, we report the draft genome of the s. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis strain c161l1 from vellore, a region in southern india with a high incidence rate of s. dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis infection. this genome is 2.1 mb long, with a 39.82% g+c content, and encodes 2,022 genes.201728495783
prevalence of complement-mediated cell lysis-like gene (sicg) in streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis isolates from japan (2014-2016).streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. equisimilis (sdse; a β-hemolytic streptococcus of human or animal origin) infections are emerging worldwide. we evaluated the clonal distribution of complement-mediated cell lysis-like gene (sicg) among sdse isolates from three central prefectures of japan.201728445008
