non-invasive thermometry using magnetic resonance diffusion imaging: potential for application in hyperthermic oncology.the proposition to use non-invasive thermometry based on magnetic resonance diffusion imaging for applications in therapeutic hyperthermia is examined. the measurement of proton motion predominantly associated with the self-diffusion of water can be characterized by a boltzmann temperature dependence (i.e. e-ea/kt). the activation energy (ea) is on the order of 0.2 ev and, for a restricted range (approximately 30 degrees) at a base temperature of approximately 300 k, the relationship between the ...20061479207
infection and cancer: current state of art.empirical evidence of the association of cancer with parasitic and viral infectious agents has been recognized earlier. today, viruses are thought to account for about 10% of all cancers and they take a central place in experimental cancer research. this area has expanded tremendously with modern molecular biology techniques, the knowledge of gene expression, cellular enzyme and mechanisms of transformation. however, the last proof of causality is not yet available. serologic, virologic, experim ...20061426172

design of a clinical laboratory computer system.a clinical laboratory is a dynamic organization that suffers when constrained to a static environment. its approach to information management must be predicated on an ability to deal comfortably with change whenever necessary. it is important to view an information system as a dynamic process rather than a static object to be used for some time and then discarded for a newer model.20072040151
[systemic thrombolysis in acute myocardial infarct. the physiopathological bases, current status, problems and prospects].thrombolytic therapy of acute myocardial infarction has been demonstrated to recognize occluded coronary arteries, reduce infarct size and left ventricular dysfunction, and improve the survival. intravenous thrombolysis is now accepted as the best way, with the same results but less organisational problems in comparison with the intracoronary treatment. in these present study a particular reading of the thrombolytic method is proposed, based on the knowledge of the patho physiology of coronary a ...20072151431
[status of the venous part of the portal system in infectious-toxic shock in infants with acute pneumonia].as many as 38 children aged 2 to 12 months suffering from acute pneumonia complicated by infectious-toxic shock manifested dilatation of the veins of portal circulation and deposition of a considerable blood volume, which was revealed by ultrasonic examination. the hemodynamic disorders were shown to play the leading part in the genesis of hepatomegaly, followed by hypoxic derangement of the hepatocyte. in infants, who are in a state of infectious-toxic shock, vascular decompensation of the live ...20072075039

mechanisms of 4-hydroxytamoxifen anti-growth factor activity in breast cancer cells: alterations of growth factor receptor binding sites and tyrosine kinase activity.we previously demonstrated that antiestrogen 4-hydroxytamoxifen (oh-tam) blocks the mitogenic activity of growth factors in breast cancer. we now investigate this mechanism by evaluating how oh-tam affects growth factor binding and receptor tyrosine kinase activity. we show here that oh-tam has an opposite effect on epidermal growth factor (egf) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (igf-1) binding in estrogen receptor (er) positive cells. a decrease in igf-1 binding sites may explain the reduced igf ...20082268352

relationships between adenosine, cyclic nucleotides, and xanthines in asthma.methylxanthines have been used for the treatment of asthma for more than 60 years, but their mechanism of action is poorly understood. their ability to inhibit cyclic adenosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase has attracted much attention. however, this is clearly demonstrable only in high doses and is more likely to be related to toxicity. an alternative mechanism is antagonism of adenosine receptors in the lung. adenosine has been shown to be released in asthma and cause bronchoconstriction in ...20103021833
mitochondrial protein import: involvement of the mature part of a cleavable precursor protein in the binding to receptor sites.the precursor of f0-atpase subunit 9 was bound to mitochondria in the absence of a mitochondrial membrane potential (delta psi). binding was mediated by a protease-sensitive component on the mitochondrial surface. when delta psi was reestablished, bound precursor was directly imported without prior release from the mitochondrial membranes. a chimaeric protein consisting of the complete subunit 9 precursor fused to cytosolic dihydrofolate reductase (dhfr) was also specifically bound to mitochondr ...20102892669

age-dependent changes in murine protein kinase and protease enzymes.hormone responsiveness is mediated by signal transduction mechanisms involving second messengers, such as camp and ca2+, which regulate reversible changes in the phosphorylation state of proteins. during senescence individuals frequently exhibit a diminished responsiveness to hormones. we examined changes in enzymes involved in protein phosphorylation reactions that might account for this decreased adaptiveness in old mice, and observed the following post-maturational changes: (1) camp-dependent ...20102852280
expression of t cell receptor gamma-chain in murine cytotoxic t cells: analysis of a highly transcribed nonrearranged gene cluster.the murine t cell receptor gamma-gene family is organized in 4 gene clusters which encode variable, joining and constant gene segments. because the function of the gamma-gene products is still unclear, there is great interest in functional rearrangements of these genes. we searched for new variable gamma-gene segments in the gamma 4-gene cluster. the mapping and sequencing of a supposed new variable segment of a functionally spliced transcript from a cdna library of the cytotoxic t cell clone 3f ...20102849571
