bioproduction of vanillin using an organic solvent-tolerant brevibacillus agri 13.nowadays, majority of vanillin supplied to the world market is chemically synthesized from a petroleum-based raw material, raising a concern among the consumers regarding the product safety. in this study, an organic solvent-tolerant brevibacillus agri 13 previously reported for a strong predilectic property was utilized as a whole-cell biocatalyst for bioproduction of vanillin from isoeugenol (ig). b. agri 13 is the first biocatalyst reported for bioproduction of vanillin at a temperature as hi ...201121814805
BT cationic peptides: Small peptides that modulate innate immune responses of chicken heterophils and monocytes.Neonatal poultry exhibit a transient susceptibility to infectious diseases during the first week of life that stems from inefficient host defense mechanisms. Yet, the initial host immune response to pathogens is a critical determinant of disease resistance and susceptibility. With this context in mind, novel ways to stimulate or modulate the hosts' natural immune response is emerging as an important area of interest for food animal producers including the poultry industry. Specifically, we have ...201122129785
Presence and potential role of thermophilic bacteria in temperate terrestrial environments.Organic sulfur and nitrogen are major reservoirs of these elements in terrestrial systems, although their cycling remains to be fully understood. Both sulfur and nitrogen mineralization are directly related to microbial metabolism. Mesophiles and thermophiles were isolated from temperate environments. Thermophilic isolates were classified within the Firmicutes, belonging to the Geobacillus, Brevibacillus, and Ureibacillus genera, and showed optimum growth temperatures between 50°C and 60°C. Sulf ...201222159635
cloning, expression and purification of extracellular serine protease esp, a biofilm-degrading enzyme, from staphylococcus epidermidis.staphylococcus epidermidis esp, an extracellular serine protease, inhibits staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation and nasal colonization. to further expand the biotechnological applications of esp, we developed a highly efficient and economic method for the purification of recombinant esp based on a brevibacillus choshinensis expression-secretion system.201121974778
Genome sequence of Brevibacillus laterosporus LMG 15441, a pathogen of invertebrates. Here we announce the genome sequence of the bacterium Brevibacillus laterosporus LMG 15441, which is a pathogen of invertebrates. The genome consists of one chromosome and two circular plasmids. Sequence analysis revealed a large potential to produce polyketides, nonribosomal peptides, and toxins.201121914864
comparing the tolerance limits of selected bacterial and protozoan species to nickel in wastewater systems.heavy-metal resistant microorganisms play a significant role in the treatment of industrial wastewater. the detoxifying ability of these resistant microorganisms can be manipulated for bioremediation of heavy metals in wastewater systems. this study aimed at comparing the tolerance limit of selected wastewater protozoan species (aspidisca sp., trachelophyllum sp. and peranema sp.) against ni(2+) with that of selected bacterial species (bacillus licheniformis-atcc12759, brevibacillus laterosporus ...201122014510
Purification and characterization of a serine protease secreted by Brevibacillus sp. KH3 for reducing waste activated sludge and biofilm formation.A novel protease secreted by Brevibacillus sp. KH3 isolated from excess sludge at 50 °C and used as a sludge-lysing strain was investigated in this study. Sludge reduction was minimized by protease inhibitors and a 40-kDa protease, which significantly contributed to this sludge-reducing activity, was purified as the target protein. The final purified protease demonstrated 92-fold higher specific activity than the initial crude extracts. The sludge-reducing efficiency deteriorated relative to dec ...201121925876
isolation of brevibacillus brevis from tracheal aspirates of a hospitalized patient. 201122085367
brevibacillus nitrificans sp. nov., a nitrifying bacterium isolated from a microbiological agent for enhancing microbial digestion in sewage treatment tanks.a heterotrophic nitrifying bacterium, designated as strain da2(t), was isolated from a microbiological agent for enhancing microbial digestion in sewage treatment tanks. cells of strain da2(t) were gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, motile by means of peritrichous flagella and sporulating rods, and grew in the ph range of 5-8. its major isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-7 (mk-7), and its cellular fatty acid profile mainly consisted of iso-c15:0 (18.6%) and anteiso-c15:0 (69.1%). the dna ...201122039003
a novel prokaryotic expression system for biosynthesis of recombinant human membrane-bound catechol-o-methyltransferase.membrane proteins constitute 20-30% of all proteins encoded by the genome of various organisms. while large amounts of purified proteins are required for pharmaceutical and crystallization attempts, there is an unmet need for the development of novel heterologous membrane protein overexpression systems. specifically, we tested the application of brevibacillus choshinensis cells for the biosynthesis of human membrane bound catechol-o-methyltransferase (hmbcomt). in terms of the upstream stage mod ...201121889552
purification and characterization of a novel antimicrobial peptide from brevibacillus laterosporus strain a60.a novel antimicrobial peptide, with molecular mass of 1602.0469da, produced by brevibacillus laterosporus strain a60 was isolated and purified from the soil of mango plants. the purification procedure consisted of ammonium sulfate precipitation, cation exchange chromatography on an hitrap sp hp column, thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography (hplc) on c18 reversed-phase column. after the four isolation procedures, one peptide with antimicrobial activity was obtained ...201222244810
