seasonal levels of the major american cockroach allergen per a 9 (arginine kinase) in bangkok and their relevance for disease severity.monitoring the levels of cockroach (cr) allergen in the environment has medical relevance as a clear dose response relationship between cr allergen exposure, sensitization and hospitalization has been reported. in this study, a cross-sectional survey of the levels of a major american cockroach (periplaneta americana) allergen, i.e. per a 9 (arginine kinase) in dust samples collected in various seasons throughout the year 2007 from 76 houses of cr allergic thai patients in the bangkok metropolita ...200919548624
detection of trypanosoma evansi in brains of the naturally infected hog deer by streptavidine-biotin immunohistochemistry.twenty-four percent of hog deer (cervus porcinus) that ranged free on a farm in samut prakarn province, thailand, died showing nervous signs between september 1997 and february 1998. the nervous signs shown by most of them included ataxis, paresis of hind limbs, lateral recumbency, excitation and convulsion. six animals and one carcass were submitted for diagnosis at the national institute of animal health, bangkok. trypanosoma evansi was detected in blood and cerebrospinal fluid of four and fiv ...200010622614
serological comparison of type a foot and mouth disease virus isolates from thailand.antigenic variation of type a foot and mouth disease (fmd) virus in thailand was examined using a total of 82 field viruses isolated between 1986 and 1989. a two-dimensional serum microneutralisation test was used to compare these isolates to a reference strain, a15 bangkok 1960 (a bkk/60). viruses regarded as unrelated to a bkk/60 were compared to another reference strain, a22 nakhon pathom 1986 (a npt/86). this approach divided the viruses into two groups. most of the viruses shared a close an ...19958593389
cholera-like illness due to aeromonas sobria.a thai woman from bangkok was admitted to a hospital in paris for a cholera-like illness. a culture of her "rice-water" diarrhea was negative for vibrio cholerae and enterotoxigenic escherichia coli but was positive for aeromonas sobria. this strain produced enterotoxin, cytolysin, proteolysin, hemolysin, and a cell-rounding factor. acute -and convalescent-phase sera showed an increase in neutralizing antibodies to enterotoxin, cytolysin, and hemolysin. the enterotoxin, which was labile at 100 c ...19827054327
characterization of a virus associated with epidemic conjunctivitis in thailand.a strain of virus, named the a-e strain, was isolated from a patient suffering from acute haemorrhagic conjunctivitis during an epidemic of the disease in bangkok in 1972. the virus had the characteristics of an enterovirus but was not neutralized by any known enterovirus antiserum. cross neutralization tests indicated that the isolate was closely related to the j670-71 virus isolated in japan. the virus produced conjunctivitis in rabbits and monkeys following conjunctival inoculation.1975175776
