wildlife (boselaphus tragocamelus)-small ruminant (goat and sheep) interface in the transmission of 'bison type' genotype of mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis in india.information on mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (map) genotypes infecting different animal species in india is limited. presence of map was investigated in free ranging antelopes (locally known as nilgai/blue bulls/boselaphus tragocamelus) using direct microscopy, culture, is900 pcr and is1311 pcr-rea. is900 elements of map from nilgai and previously isolated from goats were sequenced and compared to establish inter-species transmission between free ranging nilgai and closed farm ...201018805585
isolation and identification of virulent peste des petits ruminants viruses from ppr outbreaks in india.in this study, three outbreaks of peste des petits ruminants (ppr) in goats and sheep flocks with high morbidity and considerable mortality were recorded at jhansi and revati in uttar pradesh and bhopal in madhya pradesh, india during 2003-2006. clinical samples were collected from the affected flocks for laboratory investigation. the ppr virus (pprv) antigen/nucleic acid in the infected tissues/swab materials was demonstrated by using sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) and rever ...201020204510
genetic parameters for direct and maternal effects on post-weaning body measurements of muzaffarnagari sheep in india.variance components and genetic parameters were estimated for post-weaning (i.e., at 6, 9, and 12 months of age) body measurements in muzaffarnagari sheep maintained at the central institute for research on goats, makhdoom, mathura, india over a period of 29 years (1976 through 2004). records of 2,965 lambs descended from 162 rams and 1,213 ewes were used in the study. analyses were carried out by reml fitting an animal model and ignoring or including maternal genetic or permanent environmental ...201021104125
external ophthalmomyiasis caused by oestrus ovis: a rare case report from india.myiasis of different organs has been reported off and on from various regions in the world. we report a human case of external ophthalmomyiasis caused by the larvae of a sheep nasal botfly, oestrus ovis, for the first time from meerut city in western uttar pradesh, india. a 25-year-old farmer presented with severe symptoms of conjunctivitis. the larvae, 3 in number, were observed in the bulbar conjunctiva, and following removal the symptoms of eye inflammation improved within a few hours.200919290093
genotyping of benzimidazole susceptible and resistant alleles in different populations of haemonchus contortus from himalayan and sub-himalayan regions of north-west india.an allele-specific pcr was standardized to diagnose the mutation (phe to try) at residue 200 of the isotype 1 beta tubulin gene responsible for benzimidazole resistance in haemonchus contortus adult and infective larvae. adult and infective larvae of haemonchus contortus were collected from sheep under different managemental practices (intensive and extensive) in temperate himalayan regions (mukteshwar and kedarkhatta), sub-himalayan region (pantnagar) of uttarakhand state and subtropical region ...200919101817
estimation of (co)variance components and genetic parameters of greasy fleece weights in muzaffarnagari sheep.variance components and genetic parameters for greasy fleece weights of muzaffarnagari sheep maintained at the central institute for research on goats, makhdoom, mathura, india, over a period of 29 years (1976 to 2004) were estimated by restricted maximum likelihood (reml), fitting six animal models including various combinations of maternal effects. data on body weights at 6 (w6) and 12 months (w12) of age were also included in the study. records of 2807 lambs descended from 160 rams and 1202 e ...200919207926
genotype profiles of mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis isolates recovered from animals, commercial milk, and human beings in north india.to understand the genetic diversity of mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (map) isolates recovered from domestic and wild ruminants, commercial milk, and human beings in north india.200919233699
pathogenic 'bison-type' mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis genotype characterized from riverine buffalo (bubalus bubalis) in north india.despite low per-animal productivity of ruminants in developing countries, johne's disease has not been investigated in buffaloes, which are primarily found in these countries. this is due to lack of expertise, diagnostic kits and priority to production diseases like johne's disease. presence of pathogenic mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (map) was investigated by screening of target tissues (mesenteric lymph nodes and large intestine) by culture and is 900 pcr, in 50 sacrificed bu ...200817804069
sero-prevalence of bovine johne's disease in buffaloes and cattle population of north india using indigenous elisa kit based on native mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis 'bison type' genotype of goat origin.present pilot study is the first attempt in the country to estimate sero-prevalence of bovine johne's disease (bjd) by screening cattle and buffaloes representing large population belonging to farmer's and farm herds in the home tracts (uttar pradesh (up) and punjab) of hariana cattle and murrah buffaloes in north india. indigenous and in-house plate elisa kit (using protoplasmic antigen from native mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis 'bison type' strain of goat origin), originally devel ...200817854892
genetic analysis of growth traits in muzaffarnagari sheep.data on 4112 muzaffarnagari sheep, maintained at the central institute for research on goats, makhdoom, mathura, india, and recorded between 1976 and 1999, were analysed to study the growth-related traits and their genetic control. the average weights at birth, and at 12 months of age were 3.1 +/- 0.2 and 28.0 +/- 0.6 kg, respectively. the pre- and post-weaning average daily weight gains were 127.8 +/- 3.3 g and 49.4 +/- 1.6 g. and the associated growth efficiencies were 3.59 +/- 0.08 and 0.95 + ...200312797416
dermatophytes isolated from selected ruminants in india.a survey was carried out in different areas of uttar pradesh for isolating and identifying dermatophytes from ruminants. out of 102 skin scrapings, collected from various animals, 4/22 cattle, 1/9 buffalo, 14/44 sheep and 2/28 goats were koh positive. in respect of the cattle, the culture positive samples yielded one strain each of trichophyton mentagrophytes, t. rubrum, t. simii and two strains of microsporum gypseum. from the buffaloes examined, only one case yielded a dermatophyte and it was ...19989850594
sero-positivity of domestic animals against japanese encephalitis in bareilly area, u.p.a study on seroprevalence of japanese encephalitis (je), west nile (wn) and dengue-2 (dn-2) was undertaken in and around bareilly, uttar pradesh to explore the role of non-human hosts in the natural cycle of these infections. a total of 1449 animal sera samples collected from 104 dogs, 170 pigs, 170 horses, 333 buffaloes, 252 cattle, 168 sheep and 252 goats were screened for antibodies against je, wn and dn-2 by micro-haemagglutination inhibition (hi) test employing 4 to 16 ha units of je, wn an ...19958866989
