triterpenoid saponins from mimosa pigra.two novel triterpene glycosides have been isolated from mimosa pigra. the aglycone of these two compounds was identified as machaerinic acid by 1h- and 13c-nmr spectroscopy and by comparison with an authentic sample. this aglycone is substituted at position c-3 by an identical oligosaccharide chain in these glycosides, and at position c-21 by either a z/e-methoxycinnamic [1] unit or an e-cinnamic acid [2] unit.19957595593
medicinal plants from riau province, sumatra, indonesia. part 1: uses.one hundred and fourteen species of flowering plants, claimed to have medicinal uses, were recorded from a previously uninvestigated area of sumatra. of the specimens, which belonged to 51 families, 50% were used to combat fever, 33% for diarrhoea and 31% for other gastrointestinal problems. external applications were often used to treat internal conditions, particularly fever. species new to the ethnomedical literature are garcinia parvifolia, scleria purpurescens, galearia filiformis, litsea e ...19957776664
antimicrobial activity of fabaceae species used in yucatan traditional medicine.the methanol and water extracts of six fabaceae species, traditionally used in mayan medicine for the treatment of diarrhoea and eye infections, were phytochemically screened and tested for in vitro antimicrobial activity. four species showed activity against gram positive bacteria, five exhibited some activity against candida albicans, two exhibited activity against aspergillus niger and only one, mimosa pigra, inhibited growth of pseudomonas aeruginosa. none of the extracts was active against ...200011449511
prevalence of burkholderia sp. nodule symbionts on four mimosoid legumes from barro colorado island, panama.sequences of 16s rrna and partial 23s rrna genes and pcr assays with genotype-specific primers indicated that bacteria in the genus burkholderia were the predominant root nodule symbionts for four mimosoid legumes (mimosa pigra, m. casta, m. pudica, and abarema macradenia) on barro colorado island, panama. among 51 isolates from these and a fifth mimosoid host (pithecellobium hymenaeafolium), 44 were burkholderia strains while the rest were placed in rhizobium, mesorhizobium, or bradyrhizobium. ...200515709366
a phyto-sociological analysis of the distribution of riverine tsetse flies in burkina faso.in burkina faso, glossina palpalis gambiensis vanderplank and g. tachinoides westwood (diptera: glossinidae) are the main cyclic vectors of trypanosomiasis. the vegetation type along river banks is an important factor determining the distribution and abundance of these tsetse. the following work investigated the relation between the plant species present (including the disturbance level) and tsetse distribution and abundance, using three ecotypes, described by p.c. morel in 1978. these were the ...200516336302
beta-rhizobia from mimosa pigra, a newly discovered invasive plant in taiwan.a total of 191 rhizobial isolates from the root nodules of three geographically separate populations of the invasive plant mimosa pigra in taiwan were examined using amplified rdna restriction analysis, 16s rdna sequences, protein profiles and elisa. of these, 96% were identified as burkholderia and 4% as cupriavidus taiwanensis. the symbiosis-essential genes noda and nifh were present in two strains of burkholderia (pas44 and ptk47), and in one of c. taiwanensis (pas15). all three could nodulat ...200516313648
proof that burkholderia strains form effective symbioses with legumes: a study of novel mimosa-nodulating strains from south america.twenty mimosa-nodulating bacterial strains from brazil and venezuela, together with eight reference mimosa-nodulating rhizobial strains and two other beta-rhizobial strains, were examined by amplified rrna gene restriction analysis. they fell into 16 patterns and formed a single cluster together with the known beta-rhizobia, burkholderia caribensis, burkholderia phymatum, and burkholderia tuberum. the 16s rrna gene sequences of 15 of the 20 strains were determined, and all were shown to belong t ...200516269788
burkholderia mimosarum sp. nov., isolated from root nodules of mimosa spp. from taiwan and south america.fourteen strains were isolated from nitrogen-fixing nodules on the roots of plants of the genus mimosa growing in taiwan, brazil and venezuela. on the basis of 16s rrna gene sequence similarities, all of the strains were previously shown to be closely related to each other and to belong to the genus burkholderia. a polyphasic approach, including dna-dna reassociation, whole-cell protein analysis, fatty acid methyl ester analysis and extensive biochemical characterization, was used to clarify the ...200616902019
coexistence of burkholderia, cupriavidus, and rhizobium sp. nodule bacteria on two mimosa spp. in costa rica.rrna gene sequencing and pcr assays indicated that 215 isolates of root nodule bacteria from two mimosa species at three sites in costa rica belonged to the genera burkholderia, cupriavidus, and rhizobium. this is the first report of cupriavidus sp. nodule symbionts for mimosa populations within their native geographic range in the neotropics. burkholderia spp. predominated among samples from mimosa pigra (86% of isolates), while there was a more even distribution of cupriavidus, burkholderia, a ...200616461667
weed growth inhibitors from aspergillus fischeri tistr 3272.chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of aspergillus fischeri tistr 3272 showed good growth inhibitory activity on mimosa pigra and echinochloa crus-galli. bioassay-directed fractionation of the active extracts led to the isolation of five known compounds, (+)-terrein (1), (-)-6-hydroxymellein (2), two diketopiperazines (cyclo-(s-pro-s-leu) (3) and cyclo-(s-pro-s-val) (4)) and butyrolactone i (5). compounds 2-5 were reported for the first time in this fungus. their structural determinations were ...200718075891
thermogravimetric analysis of giant sensitive plants under air atmosphere.the aim of this work is to utilise thermal analysis to study the thermal degradation of giant sensitive plants (mimosa pigra l.) or mimosa under oxidative environment. thermogravimetric method was used under air sweeping in dynamic conditions at the heating rates of 10, 30, and 50 degrees c/min, from room temperature to about 725 degrees c. starting with dehydration step between 30 and 150 degrees c, the main thermal decomposition process under air showed two distinct degradation zones, correspo ...201020655742
non-isothermal pyrolysis characteristics of giant sensitive plants using thermogravimetric analysis.a giant sensitive plant (mimosa pigra l.) or mimosa is a fast growing woody weed that poses a major environmental problem in agricultural and wet land areas. it may have potential to be used as a renewable energy source. in this work, thermal behaviour of dried mimosa was investigated under inert atmosphere in a thermogravimetric analyzer at the heating rates of 10, 30, and 50 degrees c/min from room temperature to 1000 degrees c. pyrolysis kinetic parameters in terms of apparent activation ener ...201020189804
