the genome sequence of the lactic acid bacterium, carnobacterium maltaromaticum atcc 35586 encodes potential virulence factors.the genus carnobacterium belongs to the lactic acid bacteria and carnobacterium maltaromaticum is commonly found in modified atmosphere packed and vacuum packed fish and meat products as well as in live fish. this species has been described as a fish pathogenic organism but human clinical isolates have only been obtained at one occasion. to investigate the virulence potential we sequenced the entire genome of strain atcc 35586, isolated from a diseased salmon. when comparing the translated gene ...201121704418
The spoilage of air-packaged broiler meat during storage at normal and fluctuating storage temperatures.Bacterial diversity and the major flora present on air-packaged broiler meat during storage at normal (4°C) and fluctuating storage temperatures (0-4°C and 4-10°C) were investigated using culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches. Culture-dependent analysis revealed that the growth of microflora was retarded when broiler meat was stored at lower temperatures (0-4°C). Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis profiles showed that Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Acinetobacter spp., ...201222184446
Bacterial infections of Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha (Walbaum), returning to gamete collecting weirs in Michigan.Herein, we describe the prevalence of bacterial infections in Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha (Walbaum), returning to spawn in two tributaries within the Lake Michigan watershed. Ten bacterial genera, including Renibacterium, Aeromonas, Carnobacterium, Serratia, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Hafnia, Salmonella, Shewanella and Morganella, were detected in the kidneys of Chinook salmon (n = 480) using culture, serological and molecular analyses. Among these, Aeromonas salmonicida was detected at ...201222168454
