phthiriasis palpebrarum infection: a concern for child abuse.pediculosis capitis is a common parasitic infestation, whereas phthiriasis palpebrarum is an uncommon infection due to phthirus pubis (pubic lice) inoculating the eyelashes and surrounding tissues of the eye. emergency physicians should recognize the causes of this uncommon disease. cases of phthiriasis palpebrarum should trigger the clinician to consider the potential for child abuse when suspected or when social history dictates the risk for abuse.201424556565
phthiriasis palpebrarum misdiagnosed as allergic blepharoconjunctivitis in a 6-year-old girl.phthiriasis palpebrarum is an infestation of the eyelashes caused by the louse pthirus pubis (linnaeus, 1758). we report a case of phthiriasis palpebrarum in a 6-year-old girl, which was initially misdiagnosed as allergic blepharoconjunctivitis. parasites and their nits were found adhering to the eyelashes and eyelids of her right eye as well as scalp hairs. no abnormality was found in the left eye. the histopathology exam revealed the presence of adults and eggs of pthirus pubis. we mechanicall ...201424909484

parasitic infections based on 320 clinical samples submitted to hanyang university, korea (2004-2011).we analyzed 320 clinical samples of parasitic infections submitted to the department of environmental biology and medical parasitology, hanyang university from january 2004 to june 2011. they consisted of 211 nematode infections, 64 trematode or cestode infections, 32 protozoan infections, and 13 infections with arthropods. the nematode infections included 67 cases of trichuriasis, 62 of anisakiasis (anisakis sp. and pseudoterranova decipiens), 40 of enterobiasis, and 24 of ascariasis, as well a ...201424850969
the mitochondrial genome of the chimpanzee louse, pediculus schaeffi: insights into the process of mitochondrial genome fragmentation in the blood-sucking lice of great apes.blood-sucking lice in the genera pediculus and pthirus are obligate ectoparasites of great apes. unlike most bilateral animals, which have 37 mitochondrial (mt) genes on a single circular chromosome, the sucking lice of humans have extensively fragmented mt genomes. the head louse, pediculus capitis, and the body louse, pe. humanus, have their 37 mt genes on 20 minichromosomes. the pubic louse, pthirus pubis, has its 34 mt genes known on 14 minichromosomes. to understand the process of mt genome ...201526335315
treatment of phthiriasis palpebrarum and crab louse: petrolatum jelly and 1% permethrin shampoo.phthiriasis palpebrarum is an uncommon cause of blepharoconjunctivitis in which pthirus pubis infest the eyelashes. we report a case of unilateral phthiriasis palpebrarum with crab louse. a 45-year-old man presented with conjunctival hyperaemia and moderate itching associated with irritation, and crusty excretions of the eyelashes in the left eye. careful slit-lamp examination revealed many lice and nits in left eye and mild conjunctival hyperaemia. no abnormality was found in the right eye. on ...201526451147

european guideline for the management of pediculosis pubis.pediculosis pubis is caused by phthirus pubis. the disease can be sexually transmitted. patients main complain is of itch in the pubic area. the parasite can be spotted with the naked eye and blue macules can be observed in the pubic area. first line therapy consists of permethrin or pyrethrins with piperonyl butoxide. second line therapy contains phenothrin, malathion and oral ivermectin. partner management needs a look-back period of time of 3 months. pubic lice incidence is increased in popul ...201728714128
phthiriasis palpebrarum: a case of eyelash infestation with pthirus pubis.phthiriasis palpebrarum is a rare type of eyelid infestation. in the present study, a 63-year-old woman presented with a case of phthiriasis palpebrarum, which was initially misdiagnosed as anterior blepharitis. the patient had a 2-month history of repeated episodes of itching and burning sensations and moderate pain in both eyes that were not improved by antibiotic and corticosteroid eye drops. slit lamp examination revealed lice and nits anchored to the eyelashes. all eyelashes were removed fr ...201728565799
human head lice and pubic lice reveal the presence of several acinetobacter species in algiers, algeria.there are two majorspecies of medically important lice that parasitize humans: phthirus pubis, found in pubic hair, and pediculus humanus. pediculus humanus consists of two eco types that live in specific niches on the human host: body lice (pediculus humanus humanus), found on the human body and clothing, and head lice (pediculus humanus capitis), found on the scalp. to date, only body lice are known to be vectors of human disease; however, it has recently been reported that the dna of several ...201728750865
