the multiplication stages of trypanosoma (herpetosoma) xeri in the liver of the sudanese ground squirrel xerus (euxerus) erythropus.blood and organ smears from 24 of 98 ground squirrels (xerus erythropus) from the sudan were infected with a trypanosome resembling trypanosoma (herpetosoma) xeri. the developmental stages are described from the liver of one heavily infected ground squirrel. multiplication was by binary fission and numerous triangular amastigotes, sphaeromastogotes and trypomastigotes were observed. a tentative development cycle in the final host is presented.1978633507

association of ticks (acari: ixodoidea) with rodent burrows in northern senegal.four species of ticks were retrieved from burrows of 64 multimammate rats, mastomys erythroleucus (temminck), 55-gerbils, taterillus gracilis (thomas) or t. pygargus (cuvier), 13 nile rats, arvicanthis niloticus (demarest), and five geoffroy's ground squirrels, xerus erythropus (geoffroy) from may 1987 through august 1988 at two study sites in northern senegal. ornithodoros sonrai sautet & witkowski were recovered from 95% (74/78) of burrows near bandia and 6% (4/66) of burrows near yonofere. ei ...19938360905
gongylonema macrogubernaculum in captive african squirrels (funisciurus substriatus and xerus erythropus) and lion-tailed macaques (macaca silenus).necropsies performed between 1989 and 1995 on 15 african rope squirrels (funisciurus substriatus) and 20 african ground squirrels (xerus erythropus) from the baltimore zoo revealed 13 cases of gongylonemiasis. nematodes were embedded in the epithelium of the esophagus, pharynx, buccal mucosa, and tongue, resulting in varying degrees of esophagitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis, and glossitis, respectively. routine fecal examinations were negative, and the nematodes appeared to be unaffected by repeat ...19989809609

description of oxynema xerusi n. sp. (nematoda: subuluroidea) parasitic in xerus erythropus and heliosciurus gambianus (sciuridae) in senegal.a new species of the genus oxynema linstow 1899, is described from the african sciurids xerus erythropus and heliosciurus gambianus. oxynema xerusi n. sp. is characterized by the lack of cervical and caudal alae and by having unequal spicules. it differs from the closest species, oxynema linstowi deshmukh, 1987 and oxynema bioccai campana-rouget, 1956, by the number, shape, and distribution of the caudal papillae, the length of the spicules, and the ratio of spicule length to body length.201323573977
a new species of spirura blanchard, 1849 (nematoda: spiruridae) parasite of heliosciurus gambianus and xerus erythropus (rodentia: sciuridae) in senegal.a new species of spirura is described from the stomach of heliosciurus gambianus and xerus erythropus (sciuridae). considering the number of preanal papillae of males, babero (1973 ) and giannetto and canestri trotti (1995) proposed the subdivision of the genus into 2 groups; those with 4 pairs of preanal papillae (25 species) and with more than 4 pairs of preanal papillae (4 species). spirura mounporti n. sp. belongs to the second, with 5 pairs of preanal papillae, and differs from spirura infu ...201323795669
three new species of fleas belonging to the genus macrostylophora from the three-striped ground squirrel, lariscus insignis, in java.three new species of fleas belonging to the genus macrostylophora (siphonaptera, ceratophyllidae) are described from the three-striped ground squirrel, lariscus insignis, from tjibodas, west java (jawa barat), indonesia at an elevation of 1500 m. macrostylophora larisci sp. n. is described from three male specimens, macrostylophora debilitata sp. n. is described from one male and macrostylophora wilsoni sp. n. is described from one female. non-genital morphological characters of the female speci ...201424810381
