a variant in the restriction endonuclease cleavage pattern of mitochondrial dna in the domestic fowl, gallus gallus domesticus.the cleavage patterns of mitochondrial dnas (mtdnas) were investigated from 15 lines of domestic fowls, gallus gallus domesticus, using 11 restriction endonucleases. the cleavage patterns with 10 restriction endonucleases were identical in all the lines. a variant was found in a line of white leghorn in the pattern with mspi digestions. cleavage patterns of the red jungle fowl, gallus gallus gallus, were identical to the common patterns shown by the 14 lines of domestic fowls.19863017154
one subspecies of the red junglefowl (gallus gallus gallus) suffices as the matriarchic ancestor of all domestic breeds.the noncoding control region of the mitochondrial dna of various gallinaceous birds was studied with regard to its restriction fragment length polymorphism (rflp) and sequences of the first 400 bases. tandem duplication of the 60-base unit was established as a trait unique to the genus gallus, which is shared neither by pheasants nor by quails. unlike its close ally gallus varius (green junglefowl), the red junglefowl gallus gallus is a genetically very diverse species; the 7.0% sequence diverge ...19947809067
monophyletic origin and unique dispersal patterns of domestic fowls.with the aim of elucidating in greater detail the genealogical origin of the present domestic fowls of the world, we have determined mtdna sequences of the d-loop regions for a total of 21 birds, of which 12 samples belong to red junglefowl (gallus gallus) comprising three subspecies (six gallus gallus gallus, three gallus gallus spadiceus, and three gallus gallus bankiva) and nine represent diverse domestic breeds (gallus gallus domesticus). we also sequenced four green junglefowl (gallus variu ...19968692897
molecular characterization of major and minor mhc class i and ii genes in b21-like haplotypes in chickens.the major histocompatibility complex (mhc) sequences of three b21-like haplotypes deriving from very different origins including the red jungle fowl gallus gallus gallus were compared with the mhc sequences of the standard b21 haplotype from scandinavian white leghorn gallus domesticus. the present analysis reveals two cdna sequences for b-f and two cdna sequences for b-lb for every b21-like haplotype, including b21 itself. contrary to expectation, no sequence polymorphism in the antigen-binding ...200011086534
intact eav-hp endogenous retrovirus in sonnerat's jungle fowl.the eav-hp group of chicken endogenous retrovirus elements was previously shown to be defective, with large deletions of the pol gene. in this report, we demonstrate that genomes of other gallus species also maintain eav-hp elements with similar deletions. the chicken eav-hp1 locus was detected in both red (gallus gallus gallus) and sonnerat's (gallus sonneratii) jungle fowl with identical integration sites, indicating that these elements had integrated before separation of the gallus species. f ...200111160706
molecular and cytogenetic organization of the 5s ribosomal dna array in chicken (gallus gallus).the 5s ribosomal (r) rna genes encode a small (approximately 120-bp) highly-conserved component of the large ribosomal subunit. the objective of the present research was to study the molecular and cytogenetic organization of the chicken 5s rdna. a predominant 2.2-kb gene (5salpha) consisting of a coding and intergenic spacer (igs) region was identified in ten research and commercial populations. a variant gene repeat of 0.6kb (5sbeta) was observed in some of the populations. genetic linkage anal ...200312906126
[genetic diversity of red jungle fowl in china (gallus gallus spadiceus) and red jungle fowl (gallus gallus gallus) in thailand].genetic diversity of red jungle fowl in china (gallus gallus spadiceus) and red jungle fowl in thailand (gallus gallus gallus) was evaluated with 29 microstaellite loci, the genetic variability within subspecies and genetic differentiation between subspecies were estimated. the results showed that the 168 alleles were amplified with the number of alleles per locus from 2 to 13. the average expected heterozygosity and polymorphism information content (pic) of all loci were 0.5780 and 0.53, respec ...200717548329
genetic diversity within chicken populations from different continents and management histories.intra-population variation was assessed in 1970 chickens from 64 populations using 29 autosomal microsatellites. on average, 95% of the loci were polymorphic across populations. in 1456 (c. 83%) of the 1763 combinations of populations and polymorphic loci, no departure from hardy-weinberg equilibrium was observed. on average, there were 11.4 alleles per locus and 3.6 alleles per population across loci. within populations, the average observed heterozygote frequency was 0.46, with a range between ...200717931400
analysis of genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships among red jungle fowls and chinese domestic fowls.genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships among 568 individuals of two red jungle fowl subspecies (gallus gallus spadiceus in china and gallus gallus gallus in thailand) and 14 chinese domestic chicken breeds were evaluated with 29 microstaellite loci, the genetic variability within population and genetic differentiation among population were estimated, and then genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships were analyzed among red jungle fowls and chinese domestic fowls. a total of 286 ...200818488177
genetic structure of a wide-spectrum chicken gene pool.the genetic structure of 65 chicken populations was studied using 29 simple sequence repeat loci. six main clusters which corresponded to geographical origins and histories were identified: brown egg layers; predominantly broilers; native chinese breeds or breeds with recent asian origin; predominantly breeds of european derivation; a small cluster containing populations with no common history and populations that had breeding history with white leghorn. another group of populations that shared ...200919496773
genetic characterization of bhutanese native chickens based on an analysis of red junglefowl (gallus gallus gallus and gallus gallus spadecieus), domestic southeast asian and commercial chicken lines (gallus gallus domesticus).the genetic diversity of bhutanese chickens needs to be understood in order to develop a suitable conservation strategy for these birds in bhutan. in this, work, we used microsatellite markers to examine the genetic diversity of bhutanese chickens. four bhutanese chicken varieties (black plumage, frizzle, naked neck and red junglefowl-like, corresponding to yuebjha narp, phulom, khuilay and seim, respectively), two subspecies of red junglefowl (gallus gallus gallus and gallus gallus spadecieus), ...201223055799
