the microscopic anatomy of epidermal glands in two species of gekkonine lizards, with some observations on testicular activity.the gross and microscopic anatomy of epidermal glands has been studied in laboratory maintained tokays (gekko gecko), and house geckos (hemidactylus bowringii) captured from the wild throughout the year. annual testicular activity in the house gecko has also been studied. while no significant differences in glandular development at various times have been observed in g. gecko, there are clear-cut annual cycles in h. bowringii. the evolution of epidermal glands in gekkonid lizards is reviewed; th ...19751159790
sex steroids and epidermal glands in two species of gekkonine lizards.in vivo and in vitro experiments on the endocrine relationships of epidermal glands in the tokay gekko gecko, and the common house gecko hemidactylus bowringii are reported. the results show that certain aspects of beta-gland differentiation involve a synergistic action between androgens and those hormones responsible for controlling the normal shedding cycle, while other aspects are solely under androgenic control. pre-anal organ activity appears to be solely under androgenic control.19751159794

[studies of the phenotypic character and consanguinity of isozymes in species and population].using discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and histochemistry methods, lactate and esterase isozyme of three species and five popalation of lacertiformes were analysed. the interspecific zymogramatic differences are obvious. each species possesses its specific zymogram. according to the zymogramatic similarity among these species calculated with the method of polar ordination, they can be grouped into 2 categories. gekko chinensis and the two population of gekko subpalmatus fall into ...200215979967
sexual dimorphism, female reproduction and egg incubation in the oriental leaf-toed gecko (hemidactylus bowringii) from southern china.we studied sexual dimorphism, female reproduction and egg incubation of the oriental leaf-toed gecko (hemidactylus bowringii) from a population in southern china. the largest male and female in our sample were 60 and 57 mm snout-vent length (svl), respectively. males are the larger sex; sexual dimorphism in head size and tail length (tl) is evident in juveniles and adults, with males having larger heads as well as longer tails than females. oviposition occurred between late may and late july. fe ...200717161593
the effects of light exposure during incubation on embryonic development and hatchling traits in lizards.light is an environmental factor that is known to profoundly affect embryonic development in some oviparous vertebrates, but such effects are unstudied in reptiles. we investigated the light sensitivity of lizard embryos by examining the thickness and light transmittance of eggshells as well as the effect of light on embryonic development and hatchling traits in four lizard species, the chinese skink (plestiodon chinensis), the northern grass lizard (takydromus septentrionalis), the oriental lea ...201627917935
