[the etiology and diagnosis of "black spot disease" of fish].some traditional points of view on the black spot disease in fishes caused by the metacercariae of the trematode posthodiplostomum cuticola are revised. the black spot disease should be considered as one of several symptoms appeared in freshwater and sea fishes in cases of infection with certain parasite species. up to present days, more than 30 parasite species causing similar symptoms are recognized. and among them 8 such species have been recorded in fishes of the volga-caspian region.19968984434

seasonal dynamics of posthodiplostomum cuticola (digenea, diplostomatidae) metacercariae and parasite-enhanced growth of juvenile host fish.the seasonal dynamics of posthodiplostomum cuticola metacercariae in 0+ juvenile fish, rutilus rutilus, scardinius erythrophthalmus and abramis bjoerkna, was studied on the floodplain of the dyje river, czech republic. prevalence and mean abundance of p. cuticola were significantly higher in r. rutilus than in s. erythrophthalmus or a. bjoerkna. a seasonal pattern of parasite infection with maximum values in autumn was evident in all three species. no effect of overwintering on the p. cuticola i ...200415127298
endoparasitic helminths of fishes of the genus cobitis from poland.a total of 107 individuals of cobitis taenia and c. elongatoides, as well as polyploid biotypes c. elongatoides x cobitis sp. and c. taenia x cobitis sp. from five localities in poland were subject to parasitological examination. four trematode species (diplostomum sp., tylodelphys clavata, posthodiplostomum cuticola - all metacercariae, and allocreadium transversale) and one nematode species (rhabdochona ergensi) were identified, described and illustrated. no clear relationship between the inte ...200315303359
posthodiplostomum cuticola (digenea: diplostomatidae) in intermediate fish hosts: factors contributing to the parasite infection and prey selection by the definitive bird host.infection parameters of posthodiplostomum cuticola, a digenean parasite with a complex life-cycle, were investigated in fish (the second intermediate host) from 6 floodplain water bodies over 2 years. a broad range of factors related to abiotic characteristics of localities, density of the first intermediate (planorbid snails) and definitive (wading birds) hosts and fish community structure were tested for their effects on p. cuticola infection in juvenile and adult fish. characters of the litto ...200415648699
[metazoan parasites of carp (cyprinus carpio linnaeus, 1758) and vimba (vimba vimba linnaeus, 1758) in the sapanca lake].in this study metazoan parasites of carp (cyprinus carpio linnaeus, 1758) and vimba (vimba vimba linnaeus, 1758) in the lake sapanca were investigated from january 2004 to december 2004. a total of 31 fish were investigated. out of the 16 c. carpio, 13 were infected by parasites and of the 15 v. vimba, 11. the parasites found in c. carpio were: dactylogyrus phoxini (malevitskaya, 1949), dactylogyrus extensus (müller, van cleave, 1932), gyrodactylus sp. monogenoidea, caryophyllaeus laticeps (pall ...200617124667
[an investigation of metazoan parasites of common carp (cyprinus carpio l.) in lake eber, afyon, turkey.].in this study, metazoan parasites of the following fish species were investigated in lake eber (afyon) from july 2002-2003. at the end of this research, 2 species of monogenea (gyrodactylus elegans, dactylogyrus extensus) were found on the gills and fins of the fishes; 1 species of digenea (posthodiplostomum cuticola), on skin and fins; 1 species of cestoda (bothriocephalus acheilognathi) in the intestines; and 1 species of arthropoda (argulus foliaceus), the skin, gills and fins of fish. the di ...200517160824
helminth communities of the rudd scardinius erythrophthalmus (cypriniformes, cyprinidae) from srebarna biosphere reserve, bulgaria.a total of 180 individuals of scardinius erythrophthalmus from srebarna lake, north-east bulgaria, were examined for helminth parasites during spring, summer and autumn of 2005-2006 (30 specimens per season). helminth parasites were recorded in 166 individuals (92.2%). ten helminth species were found: trematodes--metacercariae of posthodiplostomum cuticola, diplostomum chromatophorum and d. spathaceum; monogeneans--dactylogyrus difformis, d. difformoides and diplozoon scardinii; cestodes--metace ...200818593505
epidemiology of squamous cell carcinomas in rudd scardinius erythrophthalmus from se ireland.an epidemiological study was carried out to investigate the possible aetiology of squamous cell carcinomas which occur in a population of rudd scardinius erythrophthalmus (l.) from lough aderry in south-east ireland. a total of 1343 rudd were sampled from lough aderry and 2 nearby small lakes in spring, summer, autumn, and winter over 2 yr, 1986 to 1988. fish were weighed, measured, sexed, aged, and examined for lesions. water quality parameters and natural radioactivity were assessed as possibl ...200818717067
parasitic fauna of the lake brown trout, salmo trutta lacustris (salmonidae), a little known endemic fish from polish waters.the lake brown trout is a salmonids fish regarded as a stationary form of the migratory trout. within 2003-2004, 31 lake brown trout (salmo trutta lacustris l.) from lake wdzydze (poland), were examined for the presence of parasites following commonly used procedures. the parasites found represented digenea: diplostomum sp., posthodiplostomum cuticola (nordmann, 1832), sphaerostomum globiporum (rudolphi, 1802); cestoda: eubothrium crassum (bloch, 1779), triaenophorus nodulosus (pallas, 1781); ac ...200920209824
posthodiplostomum sp. metacercariae in the trunk muscle of northern snakeheads (channa argus) from the fushinogawa river, yamaguchi, japan.the northern snakehead channa argus, native to china, russia and korea, is currently found widespread throughout japan following its original introduction during the 1920s. a parasitological study of 10 snakeheads fished from the fushinogawa river running through yamaguchi city, japan, detected 2-101 (average, 23.7) metacercariae per 100 g of trunk muscle from each fish. the trematode was identified as metacercariae of posthodiplostomum sp. (strigeidida: diplostomidae) morphologically and charac ...201222673085
composition, structure and pattern of helminth assemblages associated with central european herons (ardeidae).helminths parasitizing the ardeid birds are poorly understood, and the majority of studies are limited to checklists and records of novel host-parasite interactions. here we analyzed the prevalence, intensity and diversity of the helminth component communities associated with an extensive cohort of the five most common czech herons (ardea cinerea, ardea alba, nycticorax nycticorax, botaurus stellaris and ixobrychus minutus) collected in the years 1962-2013. comparison with ukrainian datasets sup ...201525449288
[differences in the infestation rate of young cyprinid fishes (cypriniformes) by metacercaria of posthodiplostomum cuticola (digenea, diplostomatidae) in river and lake systems of the lake chany basin (western siberia)].a total of 12 fish species were studied for the invasion of p. cuticola (nordmann, 1832) metacercariae in the chany lake estuaries, river and lake systems during different periods of water level. all infected individuals were represented by juveniles of the family cyprinidae, except for adults of the dace leuciscus leuciscus. (l.). under an average water level (2010) the highest rate of fish invasion was revealed in the estuary zone, where the prevalence of infection (pi) constituted 37.5%, 13.4 ...201525693328
biodiversity of trematodes in their intermediate mollusc and fish hosts in the freshwater ecosystems of europe.we analysed two novel databases containing 2,380 and 8,202 host-parasite-locality records for trematode parasites of molluscs and fishes, respectively, to assess the biodiversity of trematodes in their intermediate mollusc and fish hosts in the freshwater environment in europe. the "mollusc" dataset covers large numbers of pulmonate (29 spp.), "prosobranch" (15 spp.) and bivalve (11 spp.) molluscs acting as first intermediate hosts for 171 trematode species of 89 genera and 35 families. of these ...201626898591
