in vitro activity of 9 antimicrobial agents against 177 strains of haemophilus influenzae isolated from hospitalized patients.in vitro activity of 4 commonly used and 5 new antibiotics was examined against 177 strains of haemophilus influenzae. all strains were collected from various sites in patients with clinical infections. the study confirms that several newer antibiotics are useful alternatives to older drugs, as measured by in vitro activity. ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin were the most active agents, (mic90 0.012 micrograms/ml and 0.05 micrograms/ml respectively), followed by aztreonam (mic90 0.1 micrograms/ml) and ...19902206518
the comparative in vitro activity of spiramycin and erythromycin against norwegian bacterial isolates.the in vitro activity of spiramycin and erythromycin has been determined by an agar diffusion method against relevant clinical isolates. generally, erythromycin was more active than spiramycin on a weight-for-weight basis. spiramycin showed only moderate activity against haemophilus influenzae and streptococcus pyogenes. gonococci were sensitive in vitro to both agents. many erythromycin-resistant staphylococci were sensitive to spiramycin.19863101004
a microbiological study of conjunctivitis with emphasis on chlamydia trachomatis, in northern norway.to determine the microbiological agents in conjunctivitis in children and young adults, physicians outside hospitals were asked to obtain samples from the conjunctiva in patients presenting with conjunctivitis. specimens from 194 patients and 177 healthy controls were cultivated for chlamydia trachomatis. in 12 cases chlamydia trachomatis was isolated (i.e. 4 neonates, 1 three-year-old child and 7 adults, aged 17 to 39 years), but in none of the controls. of the specimens from patients 168 and a ...19863535369

bacteriological findings in nasopharynx specimens from patients with a clinical diagnosis of acute sinusitis.to study results from bacteriological specimens from nasopharynx in patients with a clinical diagnosis of acute sinusitis in relation to ct findings.200111482414
properties and clinical performance of vaccines containing outer membrane vesicles from neisseria meningitidis.meningococcal outer membrane proteins have been used for over 20 years in more than 80 million doses; either as carrier protein in a haemophilus influenzae type b (hib) polysaccharide conjugate vaccine or as vesicle vaccine formulations against meningococcal disease. conventional wild-type outer membrane vesicle (wtomv) vaccines are the only formulations that have shown efficacy against serogroup b meningococcal disease. this has been demonstrated in cuba, norway and new zealand; where epidemics ...200919481313
outcomes and costs associated with phid-cv, a new protein d conjugate pneumococcal vaccine, in four countries.this study estimated the impact of routine vaccination of infants with a new 10-valent pneumococcal nontypeable haemophilus influenzae protein d conjugate vaccine (phid-cv) on health outcomes and costs across the entire population in canada, germany, mexico, and norway. a compartmental, static model with a 1-year time period for a steady-state population that allowed for the incorporation of direct and indirect (i.e., herd immunity and serotype replacement) vaccine effects across all age groups ...201021075266
why might regional vaccinology networks fail? the case of the dutch-nordic consortium.we analyzed an attempt to develop and clinically test a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for the developing world, undertaken by public health institutions from the netherlands, sweden, denmark, norway and finland: the dutch nordic consortium (dnc), between 1990 and 2000. our review shows that the premature termination of the project was due less to technological and scientific challenges and more to managerial challenges and institutional policies. various impeding events, financial and manageria ...201627388678
