[intranasal gonadorelin in the treatment of cryptorchism].in 94 outpatients medium aged 4.16 years the lhrh analogues gonadorelin had been administered for 4 weeks. 74 had monolateral cryptorchidism whereas 18 had bilateral cryptorchidism. the results indicate that gonadorelin has a role in treating cryptorchidism. the authors suggest, on its experience, that the gonadorelin should be the first choice of treatment of cryptorchidism.20082572057
the displacement of copper by iron at the specific binding sites of ovotransferrin.we have examined the kinetics and mechanism by which iron can displace copper at the specific metal-binding sites of ovotransferrin. fe2+ was added to cu2+-ovotransferrin-co3(2-) in the presence of nahco3 and ambient o2. the reaction has been followed by standard and stopped-flow spectrophotometry, epr spectroscopy and analysis of chromogen-reactive fe2+. the reaction is best described as triphasic. an initial jump in absorbance takes place in the first 2 s. in the next minute there is a further ...20082547450

poland's syndrome: variable expression and associated anomalies.poland's syndrome is a well-known constellation of congenital anomalies that includes varying degrees of hypoplasia involving the thoracic cage in association with anomalies of the hand. although the latter are most frequently described as syndactyly with short or absent middle phalanges, many forms of expression were seen in a series of 20 patients. thirty-one other anomalies were seen in this group in addition to those usually considered as part of the syndrome. of special interest are those i ...20092852197
[breast carcinomas and the extracellular matrix].this paper underlines the interrelations between tumoral cells and the extra-cellular matrix in breast cancers with possible applications for the diagnosis and the prognosis. in mammary carcinomas, the first step of tumoral invasion is characterized by the loss of basement membrane components, particularly type iv collagen and laminin. immunohistochemical detection of these disruptions of basement membrane is easy and useful for the diagnosis of "in situ" or microinvasive carcinomas. laminin see ...20103041983
individually disparate anti-inflammatory in-vivo susceptibility to corticosteroids in renal transplant recipients.we used the strength of suppression of the interleukin-1-induced peak crp response (crpmax) post-transplant as a measure for the individual steroid susceptibility in vivo. this suppressive effect proved to be fully reversible after abrogation of steroid therapy following graft removal. the standardized suppressive therapy immediately post-transplant led to extremely different results in individual patients ranging from no suppression (26.1% of the patients) to a strong or practically absolute su ...20102959125
mucocutaneous and invasive candidiasis among very low birth weight (less than 1,500 grams) infants in intensive care nurseries: a prospective study.to determine whether mucocutaneous candidiasis presages the development of invasive candidiasis and to assess factors influencing the development of mucocutaneous candidiasis and invasive candidiasis among infants requiring neonatal intensive care, all infants admitted to our neonatal intensive care unit during a 47-month period were prospectively examined twice weekly for mucocutaneous candidiasis. because 16 of 18 (89%) infants in whom invasive candidiasis (defined by positive cultures of bloo ...20102909957

dna single strand breaks caused by 2,2',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl and its metabolites.polychlorinated biphenyls (pcbs) are widespread environmental pollutants which have been shown to be carcinogenic. one possible mechanism for the apparent carcinogenicity of pcbs is their metabolism to phenolic metabolites through an arene oxide intermediate, with the arene oxide that is formed being the ultimate mutagenic or carcinogenic species. the ability of a tetrachlorobiphenyl and its phenolic and arene oxide metabolites to cause single strand breaks in dna was therefore examined. 2,2',5, ...2000111326
primary repair of flexor tendons in the hand without immobilisation-preliminary report.a new approach to the problem of flexor tendon repair within the fibro-osseous canal is presented. using a technique of bevelling the tendon ends and suturing with a fine suture material, under magnificaiton, a sufficiently strong junction is obtained, which enables immediate active mobilisation without strangulation of the blood supply. the junction can resist gap formation up to tensions of 4 kg. it is postulated that under these conditions tendon nutrition is minimally interfered with, adhesi ...2000101426
a method for the differentiation of t and b lymphocytes and monocytes migrating under agarose.this report describes alterations in the agarose lymphocyte migration technique which resulted in satisfactory differentiation of t and b lymphocytes and monocytes which have migrated as a monolayer for 1-3 days. the wright-giemsa staining used in the original method did not permit identification of individual migrating cell types. the most important modifications were changing from a plastic to a glass migration surface, and significantly reducing the overlying thickness of agarose which permit ...200193323
theoretical basis for interest in acetylprocainamide and clinical experiences with this new antiarrhythmic agent.in conclusion, it was the differential responses of slow and rapid acetylators to procainamide therapy that gave the initial clues that acetylprocainamide might be a safer drug than procainamide. so far, the experience with acetylprocainamide has been encouraging.200195247
