a description is given of a hemoproteid parasite tentatively referred to haemoproteus plataleae occurring in a glossy ibis plegadis falcinellus (l.) captured in apulia (italy) april 29, 1991. it is compared with other haemoproteids of the avian threskiornithidae family.
